During the Craftsmanship Awards ceremony, Jennifer Mallia received the innovation award for creating a traditional Maltese clock (tal-lira) with a difference – using ceramics instead of wood.
The Maltese clock is not found in many homes. In the past it was considered an ornament of the rich. Jennifer Mallia wants the clock to find its place in Maltese homes. In March, Jennifer had to close her workplace in Qormi due to the pandemic. During this time, she worked on a traditional Maltese clock using ceramics.
“I had a lot of time. We were inside and I used that time. Let’s just say that I didn’t waste time. I used work on this everyday, always learning different things,” she explained.
