Otaku Madness

I have been very busy with a school club. It's all about Japanese popular culture. I don't agree with the name that they've given themselves: The Otaku Club. Since I consider things from a Japanese point of view, I think that the word "otaku" still carries a negative connotation. Therefore, when I joined, I made a motion to change the name. Even the President at the time agreed with my perspective. Then she stepped down because of her health and I was voted in as President. I think the other club members wanted to keep the name not because of what it means but because that's what the former President called it. We voted, and I lost 18-2.

So now I am President of the Otaku Club at my school. I'm not thrilled about the name, but I can only hope that the negative status of the word "otaku" will soften by the time I apply for my study abroad at Waseda.
