The Nike Free Run 3 offers more protection underfoot than other options in the Free lineup. While the highly segmented sole allows your foot to move naturally, the upper offers a fit closer to a more traditional running shoe.
The Nike Free Run 2 is an interesting shoe in the context of my running and the other shoes I have reviewed on Running Technique Tips. Part of the reason for this is the Nike Free Run came along after I would commenced working towards better running technique and wearing more minimalist running shoes.
The Nike Free 3.0 v5 took the prize as possibly the worst running upper of 2014. Now that the intractable, tight plastic upper has been replaced with a softer, flexible and breathable material this shoe is back in favour.For this reason you will need to be familiar with lower drop shoes to take these on, and/or be quite conservative on how you approach introducing them into your running regime.
Slip on the Nike Free 3.0 v4 and let your feet take control. The thin midsole brings you close to the ground but provides soft cushioning and impact protection, while deep sipes allow the shoe to flex naturally with your foot. An open mesh upper offers a seamless fit for sock-like comfort, making the Free 3.0 v4 a wearable option all day, everyday.
The Nike Free 3.0 v2 is an attempt at a more barefoot running experience. I think that they do a great job promoting forefoot landing. The shoe and it definitely is one of those gateway shoes get you thinking barefoot or at the very least a minimalist shoe.
