Physical therapy can help injured and recovering patients improve mobility, healing, and pain management. Physical therapy services are more than just rehabilitation tools; they empower people to strengthen, relax, manage their health, prevent illness and injury, and maintain their independence.
Here's what you should expect when visiting a physical therapy professional.
Highly Trained Professionals
Today's physical therapists have years of education and internships, including undergraduate, graduate school, and beyond. In fact, due to their advanced qualifications, many people are now called physical therapists.
Physical therapists work in hospitals, independent clinics, nursing homes, schools, hospice facilities, and more. Therefore, they have expertise in all aspects of musculoskeletal function and healing. At Watauga Orthopedics, we are proud to have experienced and caring physical therapists who are ready to improve your quality of life.
Customized Physical Therapy Plan
A physical therapist will help you achieve better health and mobility, and improve your ability to perform daily tasks, play sports, work, manage pain, and more. We create a personalized care plan to help you reach your important recovery goals. The therapist does this using information provided by your primary care physician and orthopedic surgeon, as well as information obtained from an on-site functional capacity evaluation (FCE).
The FCE tests a variety of strength and mobility abilities, including reaching, grasping, balancing, walking, and squatting. Using this information, your physical therapist collects actual data that shows which areas of your body require active rehabilitation and support.
If a work-related or sports-related injury occurs, you and your physical therapist will work with you to determine when you can return to work or active play and what modifications can be made to maximize success and avoid further injury. Decide whether it is necessary.
In-clinic and at-home exercises
Expect to perform physical therapy exercises and stretches each week in the clinic under the supervision of a physical therapist. You will also be given "homework" to complete during your visit. All tasks will help you achieve short-term and long-term goals to improve functionality, independence, and confidence.
Open communication between patient and physical therapist, patience, persistence, and a willingness to adjust treatment all contribute to the long-term success of a physical therapy care plan.
