たった1人の女子高生のために存続された日本の“駅”に海外から称賛の声が続出
秘境駅の1つと言われる、北海道にある小さな駅が、今世界中から注目を集めている。
きかっけとなったのは、先週、中国中央電視台がフェイスブックに投稿した記事だ。

JR北海道の石北本線、旧白滝駅にたたずむ1人の女子高生の写真が紹介されている。
この駅は旭川と網走の間を走る石北本線の駅の1つだが、今から3年前廃駅となることが決まった。
しかし、客はいないと思われていたが、たった1人、毎日利用している女子高生がいることがわかり、廃止に待ったがかかったそう。

現在列車は、女子高生の登下校の時間に合わせこの駅に停車。
そして今年の3月、彼女の卒業を待ち同駅は廃止されるという。
旧白滝駅については、複数の海外メディアでも取り上げられ、「心温まる話」「たった1人のために…良い国ですね」「国民のことを最優先に考える国は愛される」「1人の子どもも見捨てないという鉄道会社、国の姿勢が素晴らしい」「日本に脱帽」「ぜひ旅行で行ってみたいから、廃止しないでほしい」といった声が多数あがっている。

The Kami-Shirataki train station is located in Japan’s north island of Hokkaido, three years ago due to its remote location and ending of freight trains, the Japan Railway (JR) decided to close it down. However, they changed their minds after they discovered a young girl used the station to go to high school every day.
For years now trains have stopped at the station just for her. Japan Railway will keep the train station open until she leaves school. The girl is expected to graduate on March 26, 2016, when the station will then be closed. Every day only two trains stop at the Kami-Shirataki station with a unique timetable depending on when the girl needs to go to school and back.
