「2018.05.13 Design festa47」Apparently... Clowns! Japanese Clowns (One of these has a fake breads 笑) Ok, Another storytime: For those of you guys who knew me way back win, they would know your girl Syra does not f@#$ with clowns ok? Due to a very traumatizing trip to the circus when I was very young(Was it real? Was it a dream? Idk) I had a phobia. An irrational fear of all clown, well, except sad clowns. I figured sad clowns would do more self harm than anything else haha But 4 years ago, day after Halloween, I came to the realization I was no longer effected by my clown phobia. Before even pictures of clowns would bring me to tears, clown image on a movie screen, it was all awful. - We were walking in a group to karaoke and passed a bar that still had its decorations up. Huge on the outside was giant scary clown head. I looked up at it and went "huh". Something clicked in my head, 'Guess I'm not afraid of clowns anymore. lol' Fast forward to present day, few months back at design festa and I from afar I could see clowns running, jumping, playing, entertaining people all the while getting closer to me. Could I handle a happy assault from these painted beings? I Could! it was delightful~ Not only did I survive it, I joined in the fun! [12 years ago] Looking back at this nostalgic...

[12 years ago] Looking back at this nostalgic image a created so long ago with plastic spiders at a diner in my Hometown of Richmond, VA, I remeber how simple things were, how creative I was. I had no fear in doing what I wanted, I made friends with whoever I met.. Anywhere. The ideas flowed like a broken fire hydrant and any/all of my friends inspired me as they became the subjects of the story of early Syra's adolecense. Those were the emotional years. like being on a rollercoaster that you were tricked to ride and could never get off. It was the fuel to my fire to create.. Subject/Chapter: Jenni I can't remember how we met or for how long, I just remember thinking she was the coolest person ever. I had the idea for this image and shot it with my film SLR. I planned to edit it once I got the scans back after developing. I was so exciting thinking, 'I cannot wait to show jenni the final result!' as we sat in an small empty parking lot that night. Jennie didnt have a great home life, but despite was one of the nicest people I met in those years. We parted ways that night planning meet again soon. I went on my way home, basking in what was one of the best nights I had in a while.. Never knowing that I would never see Jenni again...
