If cheap netbooks were all the rage in 2009, then tablets are the hot 2010 gadget. From the iPad that started the season to the Android based Samsung Galaxy Tab. ASUS which was the netbooks pioneer in 2007 with its eee netbooks laptops , is now planning to ride the tablet wave. Until it finishes developing its eeePad, expected to be launched in the beginning of 2011, it launched a sort of hybrid: electronic stores a Windows 7 based netbook, similar to the current computers it offers but with a touch screen capable of pivoting and covering the keyboard and morphing itself into a tablet.

Don’t touch!!

The problem with this combination of netbook and tablet is that it gives us the worst of all worlds. With cellular phones and the iPad we got accustomed to a fast user interface and almost immediate responses, even at the price of flexibility and the PC capabilities. Netbooks on the other hand, give us the capabilities provided by the PC but at the expense of lower quality performance. When the two are combined we get a slow frustrating tablet, that forces us to wait 3-4 seconds for each basic action, such as opening a browser, and reveals the basic incompatibility of Windows, even Windows 7, to a touch interface.

Windows 7 is an OS designed for a keyboard and mouse. The buttons are too small to use with fingers, and even the enclosed stylus, reminiscent of the tablets from the beginning of the decade, does not enable pressing them lightly. The screen’s sensitivity falls short of that of the dedicated tablets such as the iPad or Galaxy, and the dragging action of the window tends to freeze in the middle of the dragging motion.

The snow-white ePure offers ten polyphonic ringtones, the ability to store 100 numbers in memory, a blue illuminated display and Fulleco technology for the intelligent management of the transmission performance. The telephone is available for 70 dollars.

Speedlink marketing multitouch mouse

Berlin (dpa) - Strokes of the finger and little gestures are the language understood by the new wireless multitouch mouse from Speedlink. The input device, known as the Cue, has sensors instead of buttons on its surface. The driver software is used to define which gestures trigger which actions. That makes it possible to do much more than just standard functions like double clicks or scrolling in all four directions. It's also possible to program custom commands, like starting specific programs. The mouse communicates via a USB receiver plugged into the netbooks laptops and uses 2.4 gigahertz radio signals.

Laptop holder with loudspeakers

Munich (dpa) - A new laptop dock from Logitech is promising better sound and cooling performance in one to make work with mobile computers more pleasant. Fold-out brackets are used to affix into place any laptop up to 14.1 inches in screen size, the device's manufacturer explains. Heat-dampening mesh makes it more pleasant to hold. The integrated loudspeakers are connected to the laptop via USB, which also provides their power. The Lapdesk will be available from January 2011 for 50 dollars.
