Owlstone Strike In Us Oil Sector Owlstone, the chemical detection technology company based in Cambridge UK, has launched an analyser to rapidly detect contaminants in crude oil in real-time.It effectively takes the lab to the oilfield and could save the industry millions within a complex ecosystem.The company will showcase the technology at the Gulf Coast Conference in Galveston, Texas in October suitably the instrument is branded Lonestar.Owlstone co-founder Billy Boyle says the Lonestar Portable Crude Oil Quality Analyzer can be used by any operator for rapid, at-line detection and quantification of crude oil contaminants including methanol, hydrogen sulfide scavengers (triazines),Replica Oakley Sunglasses, monoethanolamine (MEA) and organic chlorides.Contaminants in crude oil can cause expensive problems at downstream processing plants. The crude analysis itself takes only seven minutes after which Lonestar provides a simple concentration value of the target contaminant.Lonestar can also be easily configured to provide a warning if the measured concentration is outside of pre-designated limits.Boyle says the instrument has already been shipped to numerous leading oil producers and oil service companies.Current analytical methods for oil testing require specialist instrumentation and operators and can often take hours before completion. Lonestar can also continuously sample for a particular chemical species, allowing it to be used as an in-line chemical monitor that can raise the alarm if a pre-set threshold concentration of a contaminant is reached.
