It's seven times to see it, and I saw it four times for a year.
I have been being crazy for RENT for six years, but it was late to be fun.
When I saw RENT at the first time, I crash I had never gotten.
Those days (still now), as I didn't know about English at all, so of course I couldn't understand what they said. But I felt it's something different, they penetrate my heart. Song, Performance, melody, everything is so powerful..
I was crying each scene, I don't know why, though.
Now, RENT is one of the popular broadway musical, but before, especially for Japanese, was not familiar it, because there are a lot of lines and it was difficult for the Japanese to understand about HIV and Gay and so on. So that why I guess the visitor might not want to see RENT for the short stay.
But I truly recomend you should see RENT if you get a chance.
Why I went to see RENT last week? Because now the original casts have been performing on stage.
They are back on stage after an interval of 11 years!
The actors are Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal.
It's only 6 weeks paerformance from July 30th, but they determined to extend until Oct 7th.
It's so exciting for RENT fun!!
And in my opinion..
Frankly speaking, I thought RENT have to play those 2 guys..I was conveyed they really love RENT and perform so carefully seriously.
It was the best performance and song than I had seen RENT before.
Especially, Adam Pascal who role Roger sang number of wonderful songs than I expected.
When I listened his singing voice, it was a bad quality and I felt he was a rather Rock singer than Broadway actor. But it was different!
He is actually broadway actor. He was singing well I had never listened.
Anthony Rapp who role Mark also performed the role amazingly. The performance was like a movie watched on DVD. I think he is one of the actor who think an unforgettable role.
He planed the special performance by asking Adam Pascal.
There are any other highlights!
Tamyra Gray who appeared 'American Idol' as a finalist play on stage until November 25th, as Mimi.
Her singing was the best for me than ever seen.
But I bet she is bad at dancing..there are some scene she has to dance so sexy, but it wasn't sexy, energetic.!!haha..However I like her than Daffin Rubin Vega who roleplayed Mimi as a original cast, as Yamyra is good at singing, cool and wild. I was glad I could see her performance.
I will complement something..
I can't prefer Daffin's singing voice..because she always sings cracking and it's hard to listen when she sings high tone.
I went to see Mes Miserable about 3 months ago, and she played as a Fanteene it's important role. She was so bad condition I had never listened, she was like a having a cold, it was so terrible..
But she must not have had a cold. On broadway, there are some substitutes just in case, so if she had gotten a bad condition, they would have changed the other.
Soon she left the role, now Lea Salonga who is one of the top singer in Fhilippine and also awarded a Tony prize has been playing! She is taking on vacation from August 20th to September 3rd, but as she will be back, please go to see Mes Miserable ig you get a chance! I recommend it bottom of my heart.
Melri Dandridge who plays as Morrine is also one of the great actor. She played 'Tarzan' as Kara two weeks before. You can listen her voice in the tarzan original CD. She is also good at singing.
I think she will award a prize one day.
Yuka Takara plays as ensemble. She moved from Chorus line to RENT recently.
She is from Okinawa, and very short, aroused the audience by speaking hurriedly.
Mayumi Ando (She is mix between Japanese father and Filipino mother) also played as the same role before.
I don't remember when I saw Broadway at the first time.. maybe it's 5 or 6 years ago.
Ms. O who is my dad's junior staff and loves traveling and musical said to me
You should see the Musical RENT.
She advised me before I go to New York by myself.
I was not interested in Broadway, and also had never seen these.
Those days, I just imagined Broadway to be
luxury, they MUST wear a great dress, expensive tickets
It's exactly stereotype, isn't it?
I thought the ladies who are around 20 years old couldn't go to see Broadway by themselves.
But for Ms. O's advice and recomendation of my dad, I decided to see Broadway that the top of the entertainment in NY.
But..how can I get the tickets?
As I had a 'Chikyu no arukikata' that it's standard travel book in Japan, I checked it out.
They said that there were 4 ways to get the tickets.
First, Box office.
It means you directly come to in front of the theater.
In this case, you have to speak in English when you purchase the tickets.
To be honest with you, I didn't have confidence about English although my major was English Literature in Junior College..
In addition, I didn't expect I have time to buy the tickets.
Umm..
Anyway, next.
tkts or rush tickets.
What's tkts?
That's my first feeling.
It's service that you can get the tickets only half price.
But in this case as well as you have to speak in English when you buy the tickets that you want.
And you can pay only cash or travelers check, not credit card. You also have to pay $3 for service charge.
Unfortunately, no one knows if you can get the tickets that you want until that day, because of the unsold tickets.
What's rush tickets?
One of the discount tickets, but it depends on each theater.
However, there is a limit to purchase the tickets, or you have to be in front of the theater before 2 hours of the performance, or Lottery...
They said each theater has each rule, so please ask each theater...
How can I ask them?
...
Third, Official site or reservation agency site.
I tried opening the ticketmaster.
???
Done.
The indication is exactly in English, and if you want to apply the tickets, you have to input your credit card number. If you apply from Japan, you can choose how to receive the tickets, picking up the theater directly or sending the mail to Japan.
( But those days, I didn't know anything...)
And also I worried about the automatic deduction without the tickets.
We have to pay about $5-10 for service charge.
I don't want to take a risk!
Finally, tickets agency from Japan.
We have to pay 3000 yen for service charge, and we don't know if it's good available seat or not.
(Generally, you won't get the nice tickets even it's orchestra seat..I bet)
You might feel easy, because you will exactly get the tickets you want. But I didn't think it doesn't profit and not attractive..
Eventually, I tried to check some website.
And finally, I purchased the tickets by Japanese tickets agency.
That agency was so conscientious! I could get 30% discount tickets and also it was a good available seat.
I paid a little service charge, but they sent me the ticket to Japan. I felt lucky.
Nowaday, they don't sell the tickets any more because they moved to the other state. I wanted to introduce you this agency..
But, I will introduce you how to get the broadway tickets easily and profitably.
