Viewer discretion is advised City of Vancouver crews began removing homeless encampment tents along Hastings Street in the Downtown Eastside on Tuesday. However, by mid-afternoon, the scene had become chaotic. Global News cameras captured a large crowd facing off with Vancouver police near the corner of Hastings Street and Main Street. Some punches were thrown and projectiles were aimed at officers. Vancouver police said several officers were assaulted during the arrest of a man causing a disturbance at the Carnegie Centre. The officers were already nearby due to the City of Vancouver staff moving in to remove tents and structures between Gore Avenue and Abbott Street. Officers were called by Carnegie Centre staff just before 3 p.m., who reported a man throwing computers and behaving erratically. As officers were taking him into custody, the man resisted arrest and fought with the police. A large crowd gathered and became hostile and combative with the officers, police added. Several police officers were assaulted and multiple arrests were made, police said. For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/9047306/va... Vancouver police release video showing violent, unprovoked assault by "aggressive panhandler"

Vancouver Police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying a man who they say violently attacked a driver in an unprovoked assault earlier this month near the Vancouver Art Gallery. According to police, at around 1 p.m. on Aug. 6, a 25-year-old driver was approached by a panhandler at the front of his car, who blocked him from being able to move forward. At a certain point in dashcam video that police have released, the suspect can be seen gesturing "aggressively" toward the driver and screams at him. The driver is eventually able to manoeuver away, but as he drives off the suspect allegedly threw a bottle through the window and struck him in his head. Due to the violent nature of the assault, police are asking anyone with information about the suspect to contact them. For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/8128921/va...
