Tonga volcano eruption fills sky with black ash clouds
Clouds of ash filled the horizon moments after a submarine volcano erupted off the coast of Tonga. Fierce clouds stretching 12-miles high and three-miles wide formed above the Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha'apai volcano spewing ash, gas and steam into the atmosphere. The eruption is being dubbed "one of the most violent volcano eruptions ever captured on satellite". A tsunami warning had been put in force for the entirety of the Pacific nation. 日本時間の今日15日(土)午後に、トンガ近くにある火山島フンガトンガ・フンガハアパイで再び大規模な噴火が発生しました。昨日14日(金)の未明よりもさらに規模が大きいとみられます。 フンガトンガ・フンガハアパイはトンガの北に位置する火山島で、昨日未明に大きな噴火を起こしたばかりでした。噴煙は上空15000mを超えたとみられ、昨日を上回る規模です。気象衛星ひまわり8号の可視画像では、灰色の噴煙が徐々に拡大していく様子がはっきりと捉えられています。 火山島の南に位置するトンガでは1mを超える潮位変動が観測され、噴火に伴って津波が発生したとみられます。前日の潮位変動よりもはるかに大きく被害の発生が懸念される状況です。 ＜16:00追記＞ この噴火に伴い周辺地域に津波警報が発表されました。各地に津波が到達しており、トンガでは80cm、アメリカ領サモアでは60cmを観測しています
