“ What dose a waterfall
in a japanese garden
not in a shrine but in a " temple"
mean?”

According to the understanding of
the Canadian lady who I talked with,
in Shinto religion of Japan
people consider a waterfall
as an appearance of the nature.
So it makes sence for her
that a shrine comprises a waterfall,
but here is a temple.
Then her question is
whether the waterfall of temple differs
from that of shrine.
Harrrrd question‼

In a temple in Kyoto city,
I got the courage to talk to
an elderly couple.
The man and his wife coming
from Tronto, CANADA,
have passed five weeks in JAPAN.
Their trip started from TOKYO,
visiting Kamakura, Kanazawa,
Kurashiki, Nagasaki etc...,
and their final visiting place was
Kyoto.Tomorrow they will go back.
We talked on a veranda-like porch
over a traditional Japanese garden
in late autumn
about easy things, Japanese garden,
their expressions of JAPAN, and
Toronto’s life,
especially their long winter life.
The most difficult question was:
(the question itself
was not easy for me,
but summarily...)
what dose a waterfall in the garden
of this "temple" (not shrine)
mean.
