今日は最近行った、代官山のカフェレストラン「IVY PLACE」を紹介します。
Today, I'll be introducing "IVY PLACE," a cafe/restaurant in Daikanyama, where I went to very recently.
蔦屋書店の敷地内にあり、いつもにぎわっているので、知っている人、行ったことがある人は多いかと思います。
I'm sure many of you have either heard of it, or have actually been there...it's in the same complex as the Tsutaya bookstore, and it is usually really crowded!
私はずっと気になってはいたものの、なかなか行くチャンスがなく、最近やっと行けました！
I've been wanting to go there for a pretty long time, but never had the chance to, and I was finally able to a few days back!
外から蔦屋の奥に進むと見えますが、緑に囲まれ、テラス席が素敵な空間です。
You'll see it when you walk further past Tsutaya. The space is surrounded by nature, and there are beautiful tables outside.
中は広々としていて、休日の朝に行ったので、昔住んでいたニューヨークのブランチタイムを思い出しました。
The cafe is very spacious, and it reminded me of brunches I used to have when I lived in New York.
実際に海外の人が多く、家族連れの方もたくさんいました。
And in fact, there were a lot of foreigners as well as families.
朝9:00ごろに着き、満席だったので少し待ちましたが、すぐに座れました。
I arrived around 9 in the morning, and the place was full but it was a short wait.
二人で行って、マッシュルームとチーズのオムレツと、バターミルクパンケーキをシェアしました。
There were two of us, and we shared the mushroom and cheese omelette, and the buttermilk pancakes.
どちらもシンプルな味わいで、とても美味しかったです！
Both were very simple, in terms of taste and style, but really good!
今度は他のブレックファストメニューも試したいと思います。夜の雰囲気も気になっています。
Next time I'd like to try other breakfast menus. I'm also curious about their dinner menu.
すぐ近くには、蔦屋書店、少し歩けば小さなブティックやカフェがたくさんあるので、ぜひ代官山で休日を過ごしてみては？
Around the restaurant, there's the Tsutaya bookstore as well as many small boutiques and cafes, so how about spending your next weekend there?

今回の記事では、「ブランチ」について書きました。
みなさんはブランチの綴り、ぱっと分かりますか？
私は最近インスタグラムをよく使うのですが、
日本人の方が朝食・ブランチの写真を投稿し、英語のキャプションやハッシュタグを付けているのを頻繁に見ます。
そして驚くのが、"Today's branch"、#branchという言葉です。
"branch"は、「枝」です。
とっても美味しそうな朝食の説明文が、「本日の枝」と記されていると、クスッと笑ってしまうと同時に、日本人の英語習得の難しさを痛感します。
確かに、"brunch"も"branch"も、カタカナで表そうとすると、「ブランチ」になります。
ただ、カタカナはあくまでも日本語なのです。
"brunch"と"branch"の場合、強いてカタカナで示すと、「ブランチ」になるだけで、「ブランチ」そのものは"burannchi"、つまり英語では存在しないのです。
実際に、brunchとbranchの発音はかなり違います。
英語には、このような紛らわしい言葉がたくさんあるので、
また思い立ったら紹介していきたいと思います♪
