Robbie here From Tokyo. I've ignored everything Blade Runner after Final Cut was released. First, I don't like when filmmakers go back and 'fix' things. So I never watch any indulgence by a director to do that. Their original work is not just theirs to toy with. It's a result of cooperation (and argument) and contribution by many. For the director to go back and tinker is just wrong in my opinion. They only ruin the original vision. Second, I'm a die hard fan of the original Theatrical Release of BR. Sure it's got some problems, audio sync issues, plot holes, etc. But to me, that is the apex of the Blade Runner story. It was mostly Ridley's input, but everyone involved, including Deely and Yorkin who insisted on the Voice Over Narration, contributed to that film. (Yes, I am a fan of the much despised VO and the Kubrick supplied 'happy ending'). With all that said, I do think this preview trailer is interesting. Like others mentioned, it does seem to echo the restrained energy and tension from the original, at the same time promising a new story of possible parallel impact. The thing they need to retain is the beauty. It needs to be beautiful. Otherwise, it'll just be a lousy, better cast, more hyped Total Recall sequel (awful movie). I'm not sure Gosling is the right choice here, but we'll have to wait and see. Above all, the new Blade Runner needs a score by Vangelis (or someone who can imitate him), measured restraint - don't go overboard with the CG. Beauty - both, visual and poetic. and a touch of good old fashioned 'human' humor..

Since it's been a while since this movie came and went, can we talk about the CGI Sean Young? Goes to show that digitally reconstructing the young version of a character can look great. I didn't know that was CGI until I looked it up. And the same goes for a lot of scenes in this movie. The only way of telling that some of these sets are CGI is knowing in the back of your head that constructing sets like that would be too costly. Refuse to watch this - It looks like heretical junk in every respect. Maybe I'm just nostalgic or old-school, but I'm not interested in trendy actors and over-baked plots. Just look at it - It's got all the hallmarks of cheap imitation, meant as a commercial cash grab. Full of fake CGI and shallow characters. Too fast, too overwhelming, too forced, not enough love or personality to it. Blade Runner was an Original that cannot be replicated (intended) - A saudade meditation and study in cyberpunk atmosphere lovingly crafted through deliberate slow pacing, careful visual design (Syd Meade), pain-staking perspective shots, old-school special effects, and analog synth-wave meant to mimic orchestral movements, done by a master (Vangelis). It created a sense of beautiful loneliness, isolation, and melancholy, of a living breathing futuristic city. You could smell the rain and neon in every scene. It created an emotional depth greater than the sum of its production parts. Moreover, the actors were participants who spoke little, and their dialogue left space to breathe in between sentences, allowing the viewer to soak up each scene. The underlying theme was they were dealing with an existential crisis that was bigger than themselves - there was no-one to blame, no real enemy - almost a tragedy of sorts. And yet they could have been anyone on the street - you or me. I'll leave you with this - to get what Blade Runner is all about, what I'm talking about here - One only needs listen to Vangelis' Blade Runner Blues, while keeping the spectacular visuals in mind. It is truly one of a kind Sci-Fi Noir movie that was inspired by the culture and technology of decade it lived in (1980s), and its vision of the future still echoes with us today. I highly doubt this sequel can live up to it, and nor should it - You don't mess with a classic..

I really enjoyed this movie. I like the style, action, quick wit, and acting. The music was good too. For me, everything worked well together. It was great to see an old story told in a different. I was throughly entertained...going in my rewatch collection!.
