Yankees 4, Tigers 3
The New York Yankees beat the Detroit Tigers 4-3 in the 10th inning, but without any help from Alex Rodriguez.
It was the first home game for embattled third baseman Rodriguez since he decided to appeal his 211-game suspension for being involved with the Biogenesis clinic.
Rodriguez heard a mix of boos and cheers from the crowd and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts that resulted in loud boos from portions of the 46,505 fans comprising the fourth sellout of the season at Yankee Stadium.
Rodriguez was not even in the game when the Yankees eventually won it, after he was replaced defensively in the ninth by Jayson Nix.
Brett Gardner singled with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Yankees overcame a second straight blown save by closer Mariano Rivera and ended the Detroit's 12-game winning streak.
The Yankees were one strike from victory for the second straight game, but Miguel Cabrera drove a clutch two-run homer in the 9th inning to keep alive, at least for a few minutes, Detroit's hopes of continuing their winning streak.

Twins 7, White Sox 5
Justin Morneau hit a go-ahead grand slam homer in the seventh inning as the Minnesota Twins beat the Chicago White Sox 7-5 in the first game of a double-header in Chicago on Friday.
Morneau smacked another home run in the ninth, his 13th homer of the season to give the Twins a cushion.
The White Sox scored twice in the bottom of the ninth but it was too little, too late.

Nationals 9, Phillies 2
The Washington Nationals ended a four-game losing streak in style with a convincing 9-2 home victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Washington scored three runs in the second inning, as Anthony Rendon and Ryan Zimmerman homered to give the Nationals the lead for good.

Reds 7, Padres 2
A strong pitching performance from Bronson Arroyo helped the Cincinnati Reds to a 7-2 home win over the San Diego Padres.
Arroyo allowed one run on four hits in seven innings, and Brandon Phillips hit a two-run home run, while Todd Frazier emerged from his hitting slump to go 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, and he scored three times.
Padres starter Andrew Cashner (8-6) allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits over 107 pitches through five innings. The loss ended a personal three-game winning streak.

Angels 5, Indians 2
Josh Hamilton belted a three-run home run in the first inning as the visiting Los Angeles Angels beat the Cleveland Indians 5-2 and ended a four-game losing streak.
The Angels scored all their runs in the first inning and that was enough thanks to a dominant pitching performance by Jered Weaver, who condemned the Indians to their fifth successive loss.

Braves 5, Marlins 0
The Atlanta Braves cruised to their 14th straight victory as pitcher Brandon Beachy allowed just three hits in eight innings against the struggling Miami Marlins.
Atlanta scored four runs in the first inning before they eased to the 5-0 win.
The win leaves the Braves, who are 39-15 at home, one short of the Atlanta record of 15 straight victories set in 2000.
The Marlins have lost six successive games.

Athletics 14, Blue Jays 6
The Oakland Athletics snapped a three-game losing streak in style with a dominant hitting performance in Toronto.
Josh Reddick hit three home runs and had five RBIs and Jarrod Parker won his sixth straight decision as the Athletics beat the Toronto Blue Jays 14-6.
Parker (8-6) has not lost since May 22. He held the Blue Jays to six hits and three runs in six innings.

Royals 9, Red Sox 6
The surging Kansas City Royals continued their hot form to beat the visiting Boston Red Sox 9-6.
Eric Hosmer, Billy Butler and Justin Maxwell all collected three hits for Kansas, which came from three runs behind with six runs in the sixth inning. The Royals are 17-4 since the All-Star break.

Cubs 3, Cardinals 0
With two clutch hits, the Chicago Cubs continued the St. Louis Cardinals' recent slide.
Junior Lake's RBI single in the top of the seventh snapped a scoreless tie and Anthony Rizzo's two-run single moments later sealed Chicago's 3-0 shutout of St. Louis.
The Cardinals (66-49) dropped to 1-4 on their 10-game homestand, while the Cubs improved their season record to 51-64.

Rangers 9, Astros 5
The Texas Rangers joined the parade of teams that have beaten the Houston Astros' youthful bullpen, scoring four times in the eighth inning to claim a 9-5 road win.
With five of their seven relievers classified as rookies, the Astros (37-77) recorded their fifth blown save in their last six save opportunities.

Rockies 10, Pirates 1
Wilin Rosario homered and drove in four runs as the Colorado Rockies routed the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-1 at home.
Pittsburgh's five-game winning streak ended without a whimper and the loss spoiled manager Clint Hurdle's return to Colorado, where he managed the Rockies from 2002-2009 and led them to a World Series berth in 2007.
Pittsburgh had won 14 of its last 19 games, while the Rockies found home a happy hunting ground after a 1-9 road trip.

Diamondbacks 5, Mets 4
Paul Goldschmidt homered with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Arizona Diamondbacks past the New York Mets 5-4.
Adam Eaton, Martin Prado and Wil Nieves added RBI doubles for the Diamondbacks, who won their third straight game. (Editing by Andrew Both)
