This annual festival on the 26th/JAN over the long Australia Day weekend celebrates every finny facet of the tuna fishing industry. Highlights include tuna tossing, keg rolling, slippery pole climbing, boat building comps, stalls and bands.

We were fortunate to be staying in Port lincoln for the 55th TUNARAMA FESTIVAL in 2016.

http://www.tunarama.net/

The local fishermen looked like they were very drunk and couldn't throw a fish in a straight line, so I thought that I should give it a go!

You have to be in it to WIN it....

In charge of all installations of loudspeakers & PA was a very interesting man who loves his work named ROBBIE and his company "ROBBIES SOUND".

At its conclusion spectular fireworks are held over Boston Bay.

THE FRESH FISH PLACE: The Fresh Fish Place is the number one wholesaler on Eyre Peninsula for quality fresh fish and seafoods. Providing quality fresh seafood and effectively managing product availability to ensure the continuity of product supply.

Daily tours of the processing factory take place from 2pm.

After the tour you may sample many of the deliciously fresh seafood products, on sale to the public. Like the famous KINKAWOOKA BOSTON BAY MUSSELS.

BOSTON BAY WINES:
Imagine a place where you can sample fine Eyre Peninsula wines, surrounded by vineyards with breathtaking vista of blue seas, cruising yachts and perhaps even a whale.

Situated 10 km North of Port Lincoln on the beautiful harbour of Boston Bay, producing a premium range of superb red and great white wines.

COFFIN BAY: Situated on the Western tip of Southern Eyre Peninsula, Coffin Bay is 46 kms by road northwest of Port Lincoln. With a population of 650 working in aquaculture.

Coffin Bay is the premier oyster growing region for South Australia, producing the ever popular Coffin Bay Oyster, well known for its quality, flavour and size, and marketed all over Australia and overseas.

1802 OYSTER BAR: On Tuesday 16 February 1802, Matthew Flinders sailed into the pristine waters of Coffin Bay on The Investigator.

So we named our Oyster Bistro 1802. Come and Investigate the Experience!

If you love oysters than you must visit this place! The oysters can't be any fresher, straight off the boat and onto the table with panoramic vistas over Coffin Bay.

Massive selections so we opted for "A mixed 2 dozen", with 4 each of (Natural, Asian, Pinot Noir, Russian, Thai & Macadamia).

PORT LINCOLN: is a city of 15,000 on the lower Eyre Peninsula. It is situated on the shores of picturesque BOSTON BAY.

The town Jetty in the center of the Esplande is the main attraction for all the locals.

Viterra, Australia
is a wholly owned subsidiary of Glencore, has extensive flour silos & terminals in Port Lincoln.

The city is reputed to have the most millionaires per capita in Australia and claims to be the

"SEAFOOD CAPITAL OF AUSTRALIA".

The Great South Australian Coastal Upwelling System brings cold, nutrient rich water into the Spencer Gulf. Thus making it a natural home to Australia's largest commercial fishing fleet and a thriving aquaculture industry that farms: Tuna, yellowtail kingfish, abalone, mussels, oysters and experimental farming in seahorses and spiny lobsters.

Makybe Diva is a Port Lincoln, Australian trained Thoroughbred racehorse who became the first horse to win the Melbourne Cup on three occasions (2003, 2004, and 2005). In 2005, Makybe Diva is the highest stakes earner in Australasian horse racing history, finishing with winnings of more than A$14 million upon her retirement in November 2005. She is the only mare among the list of multiple winners.

But the lack of reliable surface water supply was the major factor preventing Port Lincoln from being proclaimed the colony's capital city in the 1830s.

FRED'S MARINA CRUISES: Let Fred take you on a comprehensive tour through the waterways of the Lincoln Cove Marina.

Relax on board the Tesla, a unique electric canal cruiser and soak up the surroundings and rich history of Port Lincoln’s fishing industry.

Quiet, eco-friendly and tranquil a simply perfect way to discover the millionaire's paradise marina and Australia’s largest commercial fishing fleet.

CEDUNA: is around 786 kms NW of the South Australian state capital Adelaide. The name Ceduna comes from the local Aboriginal word

(Chedoona), which means: a place to sit down and rest.

Which we did need after the long Nullabor drive and then was well rewarded by witnessing a magical sunset.

The focal point for all the 2,000 locals & 240,000 vehicles annually crossing the Nullarbor, is the Foreshore Hotel/Motel , which was voted, as having the best restaurant views in town!

In which we wholeheartedly agreeded after eating dinner there.

Two wholesale seafood retailers are located on Bergmann Drive (Thevenard & Baldys).

Thevenard's offered the freshest seafood choices: King George Whiting, Snapper, Calamari, crayfish & Pacfic Oysters. So we purchased 1/2 a dozen succulent KG Whiting fillets for a delicious dinner.

The Ceduna Foreshore Caravan Park: cabins had perfect views for breakfast or dinner from the balconies.

Head of the Bight: offers fantastic views with or without whales and travellers are encouraged to visit all year long.

Bunda Cliffs up to 120 m in height they are part of Australia’s most awe inspiring coastlines! As a geographical feature, they form part of the longest uninterrupted line of sea cliffs in the world.

It is a peaceful location that provides for driver and passengers a relaxing break and stunning views.

HOTB: stunning view platforms are located 12 kms off the main highway, but it closes at 4PM, so please be careful or the ONLY exit gate will be locked.

NORESMAN:  with a population of only 1,600 is the last major town before crossing THE NULLARBOR PLAIN.

It is essential to stop at the Tourist Bureau to obtain the last up-to-date info on availability of water, fuel, accommodation and road conditions.

COCKLEBIDDY: is a small roadhouse community located on the EYRE HIGHWAY in WA.

It is our 2nd stop on the long journey 1,500 kms East across the NULLARBOR PLAIN.

Nullabor roadhouses are very useful stops as they provide the weary driver an array of takeaway foods, petrol and even a basic motel to sleep.

The longest straight section of road in Australia is 146kms, without a single bend. Commonly known as "THE 90 MILE STRAIGHT ".

Another unique point is the dual use of the highway by the RFDS (Royal Flying Doctor Service). Every couple of hundred kms a warning sign appears.

Then 1 km down the raod the PAINO KEYS are painted on the highway, to display the aircraft's threshold landing points.

Twilight Cove: is located just South of Cocklebiddy where the Nullarbor's limestone cliffs are over 70m high, apparently it offers excellent fishing opportunities, if you can somehow abseil down the dangerous cliffs first, then climb back up with your fish & rod?

This area is noted for its underground caves & lakes. Cocklebidy Cave has a single passage more than 6 kms long with around 90% underwater and only accessible via cave diving. In 1983 a French team set a World Record here for the longest cave dive.

ESPERANCE: home to 13,000 people. The town itself was named in1792 after a French ship THE ESPERANCE, which means French for HOPE.

Just what we needed in Esperance as Naoko suffered from an acute UTI which luckly cleared up with antibiotics from the Esperance hospital below, just in time before crossing the expansive Nullabor.

It was also recently acclaimed as home to Australia's best beaches. The squeaky white sand and brilliant blue waters of Esperance proivide ideal conditions for surfing, swimming, sailing and of course fishing BUT ONLY if the winds are not too strong like when we visited!

The Great Ocean Drive is a circular loop that runs 38 kms from Esperance along the stunning Southern coastline showcasing many of Esperances famous attractions, west along Twilight beach road, Chapman's Point, Blue Haven Beach, Salmon Beach, Fourth Beach and Twilight Beach, is the most beautiful stretch of coastline, I have actually seen anywhere in Australia.

The impossibly white sands, the gently rounded granite cliffs and the ocean changing from aquamarine near the shore to a deeper blue further out near the islands.

The white sands spilling over the roads are a reminder that this stretch of coastline is whipped most afternoons by the dreaded, ESPERANCE DOCTOR.

Due to these strong winds it has a large number of wind turbines supplying electricity to the town. In fact it was the very first place in all Australia to have wind power back in 1987.

THE PINK LAKE: which gains its rose hue from red algae living within its waters, is located just 3kms west of the town.

The lake is not always pink but the distinctive color changes with the temperature. Once the water salinity is higher than that of the ocean, the temperature is high enough and adequate light conditions are provided. Then the pink halo bacterium grow in the salt crust at the bottom of the lake.

Bunbury has sister city relationships with Setagaya Tokyo, by chance where I spent 20 years of my life while teaching English in Japan.

Fish & Chips our first dinner's choice, now back in Australia, after living in Bangkok in the LOS for 7 months.
