不思議な数え方

みなさん、お子さんとお風呂から出る時に10まで数えますか

Do you count from 1 to 10 when you get out of bath with your children?

我が家でもお風呂から出る時に10まで数えています

My daughter and I count to 10 when we get out of bath too!

日本語も英語も覚えて欲しいので、日本語で1〜10まで数えたあと英語で1〜10まで数えています

I want her to be able to speak both Japanese and English, so we count to 10 in Japanese and then count to 10 in English.

「じゃぁ、10まで数えよっか

Okay, let’s count to 10!

せーの！いーち、にー、さーん…じゅう！

Ready! One, Two, Three... Ten!」

…と、日本語で数える時に「せーの！」、英語で数える時に「Ready!」とかけ声をかけて数える合図を出してから数字を数えてきました。

When we count in Japanese I always say “Se-no!”, and when we count in English I always say “Ready!” so that she knows we’re going to count.

1歳半くらいからなんとなく同じような音をところどころ言ってくれるようになり

When she was about 18 months, she started pronouncing some sounds here and there

2歳前にはところどころちゃんと数字を言えるようになり

and before she turned 2, she was able to say some numbers

2歳2ヵ月には完璧に数字が日本語と英語で言えるようになりました

and by the time she turned 2 and 2 months, she was able to count perfectly in both Japanese and English!

…ただ、娘の数字には「せーの！」と「Ready!」が必ずセットなんです…

However... when my daughter counts, the “Se-no!” and “Ready!” always comes in a set...

モノを数えるときはちゃんと1から数えるものの、「10まで数えて！」というとどうしてもセットでついてきちゃう…笑

When she is counting something she can count from 1, but when I ask her to count to 10, she always has to say “Se-no!” and “Ready!”...lol

もう少し大きくなって理解するようになったらなくなるのは分かっていても、習慣ってすごいなぁって思う瞬間でした

I know that she will lose her habit once she’s a little older and can understand, but it always reminds me how amazing (and sometimes scary) habits can be!
