Dining Detectives: Shanghai Restaurant-modern Shanghai Cuisine & Bar Our company is always intrigued each time a new restaurant opens in San Francisco. Shanghai recently opened on upper Market Street and that we knew shanghai world expo 2014 we were required to give it a try. They have authentic Shanghainese Cuisine prepared with locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. We were impressed by the elegant decor of the dining room which included very attractive Bar as the centerpiece, as we entered. We checked our coats then settled in at our table that have stylish and really comfortable chairs.

We started off with Cocktails off their full bar. The Shanghai Tea created usinggin and vodka, rum , lemon, lime , orange house and liquor made black tea syrup and Anna’s Perfect Pink created using Hibiscus, gin, Pisco, coconut and lemon Fair Goji Liquor and Orange Flower water were refreshing, perfect and unique. We sampled some unique and delicious Appetizers. We enjoyed their signature Blasting Prawns, the Smoked Mandarin Carp which can be smoked in Oolong tea and delicious Hot & Sour Cabbage. You have to also try their delicate Xiao Long Bao Steamed Dumplings loaded with pork and traditional vinegar and ginger broth. The Fish Broth (Soup) with julienne of egg and fish white was outstanding. The Entrees were also light and healthy. We enjoyed the Fish in the Vine which had been a complete deep fried laced fish fillet with red wine reduction and also the Two Golden Faces crispy noodle with prawns, peas and mushrooms. This Birds Nest presentation was lovely and also the noodles were perfect. A Side Dish of Napa Cabbage braised within a light cream sauce have also been delicious. The 2010 Provenance Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc paired well with all the appetizers and also the 2010 Chalone Monterey County Pinot Noir paired well with the entrees.

We loved our fabulous and unique dessert which had been their Sweetened Rice created using pan fried sticky rice with dehydrated fruits. We enjoyed our fun yet relaxed dinner at Shanghai. The cocktails certainly started us out right and also the fresh Shanghai Cuisine produced by Chef Leo Gan was excellent! We look ahead to trying their Weekend Dim Sum Brunch which can be served on Sunday and Saturday from 11: 00 AM till 3: 00 PM. Additionally there is live music on Thursday, Saturday and Friday Happy and Nights Hour Specials both early evening and evening. Shanghai even offers a Tasting Menu for just two available nightly and contains an exclusive Dining-room.
