普段は一族で、50頭か60頭の群れで、それぞれの地で生活をしているアフリカ象は、一年に
一度、乾季の初めの日に、キリマンジャロの山麓、アンボセリ国立公園の中の巨大な湿地帯
に、300頭の大群があつまります。
それは、湿地帯に生えている特別な薬草を食べるのが目的ですが、お互いに親愛の情を示す
ように、鼻と鼻を絡めあったり、新しく生まれた子供を紹介したり、同類の絆を深めて一日を
過ごして帰って行くのです。
それはまるで、お盆やお正月に、はなれて暮らしている家族が集まる日本の風習みたいですね。
African elephants usually live togather 50 or 60 fellow relatives in their
own places.
But once a year, beginning the dry season, they come from their land to
the huge dam area in Amboseri-National-Park to eat the special medical
herb grown there.
Then, we can see about 300 elephants gathered for the herb.
At that place they tuch their noses to noses each other to show dear
feeling.
And also each group introduces their new born children each other.
They know the value of their bonds.
The mind of them is just like the value of our bonds in the Obon or New
Year's event in Japan.
