We wish the X120e had a brighter screen with levels above 200cd/m2, but on the other hand the display appears to have improved brightness distribution and contrast levels. These could be considered fair tradeoffs for the overall lower brightness,( dell Latitude D620 Battery ) but will mean that the brightness level should definitely be turned up for comfortable outdoor viewing. Subjectively, the screen produces great colors and the image quality is sharp.

The color spectrum coverage of the ( Battery Acer Aspire 4710 ) netbook is unacceptable for professional use due to its extremely limited color space representation when compared to AdobeRGB and sRGB. Still, professional image editors would not want to work with a sub 12-inch display. Compared to the 10.1-inch Samsung NF310 netbook,( Acer Aspire One battery ) the X120e is about the same in terms of color representation,( Vostro 1320 Battery ) but still doesn’t match the performance of larger and more expensive laptop screens such as the 15.5-inch Sony Vaio VPC-EB3Z1E.

Built-in webcamThe matte display diffuses most reflections as expected, ( dell Inspiron 1720 Battery ) so outdoor usage in general is not as troublesome. An included 0.3MP webcam is positioned above the screen and works ( Dell inspiron 1520 battery ) better than average under low-light conditions.

Viewing angle stability is similar to that of the X100e,( Dell Inspiron 1420 battery ) which is notebook-typical. Horizontal viewing angles are good, while vertical viewing angles are much less acceptable, especially if viewing from below.( Dell Inspiron 1525 battery ) Colors will almost immediately shift when watching videos at slight vertical angles.

DPC Latency CheckerThe heart of the ThinkPad X120e is the new AMD Fusion E-350 APU.( battery vostro 1510 ) This dual-core processor is a definite upgrade from the single-core Athlon Neo MV40 and is capable of 1080p video playback while promising a low TDP of only 18 watts.( Sony VGP-BPS13/B battery ) Here, the processor runs at a speed of 1.6GHz with 1024KB of L2 cache.

The Fusion processor also integrates a Radeon 6310 GPU,( VGP-BPS13B/B battery ) which offers 80 unified shaders and a performance level far surpassing that of the integrated Radeon HD 3200 in the X100e. GPU-Z shows the Radeon 6310 GPU underclocked at 200MHz (core) and 533MHz (memory) by default with DirectX 11 support. The core clock can reach as high as 492.3MHz when under load, however, according to HWiNFO. ( battery dell Vostro 1520 ) As with many integrated graphics solutions, there is no dedicated VRAM, so the Radeon GPU will instead borrow from the system RAM as needed.

Two gigabytes of PC3-10700 DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz is provided in a single module. The AMD A50M mainboard can support 2 modules maximum and is easily accessible by loosening the three screws from the underside of the X120e. Boot up times are decent, even with no solid-state drive. A cold boot completed in a little under 40 seconds at its default settings.

With the DPC Latency Checker, there is a recurring high latency peak for the X120e, ( HP compaq 8510w battery ) and the problem was found to be related to the Lenovo Power Management Tool. Disabling this tool will remove the latency spikes, but a BIOS and Power Management driver upgrade will solve this problem as well. If the problem is ignored, the user may experience audio stuttering issues when listening to audio streams.

In the CPU-oriented benchmarks, ( battery VGP-BPS9/B ) the Fusion E-350 APU shows a massive improvement over the Athlon Neo MV-40 CPU of the X100e. The X120e achieves a score of 9.88 GIPS in Dhrystone and 7.5 GFLOPS in the Whetstone benchmark. Additionally, the netbook is able to finish WPrime 32m in about 72.1 seconds and WPrime 1024m in 2257 seconds.( Aspire 4520 battery ) SuperPi can be competed in 112 seconds and 2458 seconds for 1 million and 32 million digits, respectively.

Lenovo ThinkPad X120e Laptop Review

Ultraportable budget ThinkPad. ( battery sony vgp-bps13a/s ) The 2011 ThinkPad X120e is the upgrade to last year’s ultra-mobile X100e and is marketed as one of the cheapest ThinkPads around. It is also the first Lenovo notebook to feature an AMD Fusion E-350 APU with integrated Radeon 6310 graphics. In this review, ( vgp-bps13/s battery ) we will find out how much of an improvement the new Fusion processor can bring to this 11.6-inch ThinkPad.
As part of the X-series of ThinkPads,( battery vgp-bps13as ) the X120e excludes some features that are found in the more expensive ThinkPads, such as the ThinkLight in the X200s and X301 models. What it lacks in features is outweighed by the budget-friendly price, and its performance is thankfully significantly upgraded from the X100e( sony vgp-bps13s battery ) due to the inclusion of the dual-core AMD Fusion APU.

Case
Those familiar with the ThinkPad X100e should know exactly what to expect from the chassis of the X120e. ( battery apple a1185 ) While the casing is made of plastic and lacks a roll cage, the overall matte shell is surprisingly stiff, which gives an excellent sense of thickness and heft to the build. It may not be as tough as the magnesium alloy construct of the more expensive ThinkPads, but the X120e definitely ranks high amongst other netbooks in its size class.( hp 452057-001 ) Applying pressure on the center of the lid is the only location where even a hint of depression can be done. Additionally, the hinges attaching the screen to its main base are quite sturdy as well,( sony vgp-bps13b/b battery ) but the monitor portion will inevitably vibrate slightly if the notebook is being used during bus or car rides.

Due to the two touchpad buttons on the bottom edge center of the notebook, ( sony vgp-bps13b/s battery ) there is no latch for closing the screen and care should be taken when opening the lid. As mentioned in our X100e review,( battery VGP-BPS13 ) the user can accidentally attempt to open the display from the gap between the touchpad keys and the base instead of the gap between the touchpad keys and the lid.

The main blemish in the case design, however, is its protruding 10.8V 6-cellbattery module on the rear side. ( vgp-bps13/b battery ) While a minor complaint, the battery does add noticeably more volume to the netbook.( battery sony VGP-BPS13 ) It also prevents the screen from opening up to a full 180 degrees, and will instead reach about 10 degrees less before the outer lid comes into contact with the battery. Models equipped with the smaller 3-cell battery will not have this issue.

At 3.3 pounds (1.5kg) and 1-inch (2.54cm) thickness, the notebook is quite compact, ( battery sony VGP-BPS13A/B ) but is a little thicker and heavier than one would expect. The overall build quality more than makes up for the additional girth, however.
In addition to having all the physical connectivity options of the X100e, the ThinkPad X120e manages to squeeze in more.( dell vostro 1520 battery ) The back side offers a VGA-out port on one end and an AC adapter jack on the other. Like many laptops, the VGA port does not provide screw recesses for securing the video cable.

The right hand side includes a 4-in-1 card reader (SD/MMC/MS/MSpro) ( hp Compaq CQ42 battery ) and an always-on USB 2.0 port near the front edge, while the farthest edge houses a second USB 2.0 port. ( ibm 40Y6795 ) Left-handers may be disappointed that all four ports are packed quite closely to the left front edge, while the right side looks fairly bare in comparison. Table or surface space for left-handed USB mice solutions may be limited.

WWAN and SIM expansionIntegrated wireless connectivity options include Broadcom Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR II and the Realtek RTL8188CE 1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card, which are components similar to the X100e. ( lenovo Thinkpad T60 Battery ) The previously mentioned gigabit Ethernet port will allow for wired connections with Ethernet networks. As for the SIM card slot, the module is easily accessible through the underside of the notebook, in between the WWAN expansion slot and the RealTek WLAN chip. The keyboard layout here is the standard, non-backlit ThinkPad fare,( HP 6545B Battery ) albeit tightened to fit on a smaller surface area. Its dimensions are about 10.63-inches (27cm) wide by 4.33-inches (11cm) deep. Notably, the Fn key is located at the bottom left corner instead of the usual Ctrl key. While this may be an annoyance for some, users can fortunately switch the Fn key to function as a Ctrl key and vice versa under the system BIOS. Regardless,( hp Compaq CQ40 Battery ) the island-style keyboard is surprisingly quiet, comfortable and quite responsive.

The only noteworthy issue with the keyboard layout is the design of the small directional arrow keys. ( hp probook 4710s battery ) Those with larger fingers can easily press on both the up and down keys simultaneously by accident, and the adjacent PgUp and PgDn keys are more deeply recessed into the frame, which makes them offer a bit less of a tactile feedback when pressed. Also note that there is no dedicated key for scroll lock and no light indicator for caps lock, ( Dell xps m1530 battery ) either. Otherwise, the entirety of the keyboard retains its velvety feel and unmistakable ThinkPad style and ease of use.

Touchpad

The familiar Trackpoint makes itself at home between the G,( hp Compaq 8510W battery ) H and B keys and stands out more than usual due to the smaller size of the overall keyboard. The UltraNav touchpad deserves similar praise to the keyboard, but we wish it could have been a little bit taller at only 2.95-inches (7.5cm) wide and 1.33-inches (3.4cm) deep, ( ibm Thinkpad T61 Battery ) especially since multi-touch gestures are supported. The surrounding buttons are integrated for both touchpad and Trackpoint use, while the center button allows for vertical document and webpage scrolling as needed. As expected, both the touchpad and Trackpoint have excellent accuracy and responsiveness.

Test HP ProBook 4530s Notebook

Bodenständig.( Acer Aspire One akku ) So lässt sich das neue Business-Notebook aus dem HP-Einsteigersegment bezeichnen. Ein neues Gehäusedesign, solide Verarbeitung, aktuelle Hardware und ein mattes 15,6-Zoll-Display sind die wichtigsten Grundzutaten. Ist das HP ProBook 4530s mit einem Preis von rund 700 Euro (UVP) auch ein heißer Preis-Leistungs-Tipp?
Bereits Ende März konnten wir auf einem Presseevent die 2011er HP Business Notebook-Serien begutachten.( Dell M1530 Akku ) Darunter auch das neue HP ProBook 4530s mit mattem 15,6-Zoll-Bildschirm (1366 x 768 Pixel) und vor allem einem neuen Gehäusedesign. Neben dem großflächigem Einsatz von gebürstetem Aluminium dominiert eine schlichte Farbgebung das grundsätzlich moderne Aussehen. Im Vergleich zu den Vorgängern sind jetzt alle Oberflächen matt gehalten.( akku Apple A1175 )

Mit einem Intel Core i3-2310M (2,1 GHz),( Akku Dell inspiron 6400 ) der integrierten Intel GMA HD 3000 Grafik, 320 GByte Festplattenspeicher und 4 GByte DDR3-Arbeitsspeicher haben wir uns das neue Low Cost Modell HP ProBook 4530s-XX968EA in die Redaktion geholt. Dazu sei gesagt, dass von HP momentan vier Modelle mit unterschiedlichen Komponenten anbietet. Neben verschiedenen Betriebssystemen stehen diverse Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs (Maximum: Intel Core i7-2620M), ein hochauflösenderes Display,( Akku Apple A1185 ) UMTS und beispielsweise ein Blu-ray-Brenner zur Auswahl.

Ein Blick auf die HP-Modellbezeichnung zeigt, ( Sony VGP-BPS2 akku )dass das Kürzel s im Namen für kurze Plattformzyklen von 9 bis 12 Monaten steht und werksseitig nur eine 12-monatige Garantielaufzeit gewährt wird. Andererseits kann damit die übliche Preisspanne um 700 bis 800 Euro gehalten werden.( Akku Acer 5920G ) Mit Linux OS und abgespeckter Ausstattung geht es aber auch schon ab rund 450 Euro in die Businessklasse.

Der erste Eindruck zählt!(Akku VGP-BPS13b/q ) Das HP ProBook 4530s ist das erste Gerät mit neuem Gewand in unserer Redaktion. Die schlichte Farbgebung der Aluminiumoberflächen gepaart mit dezentem Lack sowie die hochwertige Haptik gefallen auf Anhieb. HP selbst spricht dabei werbewirksam von einem abnutzungssicherem Design. Ein Wundermittel sind die Einlagen aus gebürstetem Aluminium nicht, aber Fingerabdrücke, Staub und Katzer haben im alltäglichen Gebrauch kaum eine Chance.( HP Compaq CQ42 akku ) Erfreulich ist die Tatsache, dass nun endlich auch der Tastaturuntergrund matt lackiert wurde. Bei den Vorgängern war dies ein Kritikpunkt, der nicht recht ins Bild passen wollte.

Die Verarbeitung hinterlässt einen soliden Eindruck und auch im Detail konnten wir keine Schnitzer finden.( Compaq CQ60 Akku ) Andererseits besteht das Gehäuse zum Großteil aus einfachem Kunststoff, der im Vergleich nicht sehr widerstandsfähig ist. Business-Notebooks des gehobenen Preissegmentes können mit hochwertigen Metall-Legierungen oder Verbundmaterialen aufwarten. Im puncto Stabilität bleibt kein Anlass für Kritik.( akku VGP-BPS9A/S ) Selbst bei punktuellem Druck ist kaum ein Unterschied zu erkennen. Nur das Mash-Gitter über der Tastatur sollte nicht zu stark beansprucht werden, da es sonst unschöne Dellen davonträgt. Der Displaydeckel lässt sich sichtbar verwinden, wobei die Aluminium-Auflage dies ab einem gewissen Punkt begrenzt und damit einen Riss im Panel vorbeugt. Positiv ist die Druckstabilität des Deckels. Gehalten wird dieser von zwei wuchtigen Scharnieren, die bei einem straffen Halt nur leicht nachwippen.( Sony VGP-BPS13a/q Akku ) Zu beachten: Trotz entsprechendem Aussehen handelt es sich nicht um hochwertige Displayscharniere aus Vollmetall. Der Kunststoff ist nur mit jeweils einer Blende versehen.

Auch die Gehäuseunterseite hat sich zum Positiven verändert. ( acer aspire 7740 Akku ) Über eine große Wartungsabdeckung, die von zwei Schrauben unter dem Akku gehalten wird, ist nahezu das gesamte Innenleben erreichbar.(Akku VGP-BPS13/b ) Im Bereich des Arbeitsspeichers liegt laut HP-Produktseite das Maximum bei 8 GByte auf zwei Bänken. Die 2,5-Zoll-Festplatte befindet sich im vorderen Bereich und der Austausch gegen eine schnellere Lösung wäre schnell erledigt.

Die gebotene Anschlussausstattung des 4530s hinterlässt einen guten Eindruck. ( Akku Acer Aspire 3680 ) Neben den heute üblichen drei USB-2.0-Ports, einem HDMI- und VGA-Ausgang sind auch ein ExpressCard 34 Einschub sowie USB-3.0-Anschluss vorhanden, der nur durch die Abkürzung für „Super Speed“ zu erkennen ist. Im Vergleich zum Vorgänger entfällt bei der aktuellen Ausführung der eSATA-Komboport und damit gleich zwei Schnittstellen (eSATA und ein weiterer USB-2.0-Port). ( VGP-BPS13b/b Akku ) An dessen Stelle findet sich nun eine RJ-11-Buchse, die heute nur noch äußerst selten zu finden ist.

Die Aufteilung der Ports beschränkt sich leider nur auf die Seiten des Notebooks, ( Akku VGP-BPS13B/S ) wobei die frontlastige Verteilung der Schnittstellen negativ auffällt. Neben raschem Kabelsalat ist unter Umständen auch die Nutzung einer externen Maus beeinträchtigt. Ein weiterer Kritikpunkt ist die niedrige Positionierung des Einschubs für Erweiterungskarten (ExpressCard 34). Viele dieser Steckkarten blockieren bei Benutzung die zwei ( Dell Inspiron 9400 Akku ) USB-Anschlüsse sowie den HDMI-Ausgang an der linken Geräteseite.

Bei den Kommunikationsmöglichkeiten bleiben keine Wünsche offen und in allen Bereichen wird der aktuelle Stand der Technik geboten. ( Dell Latitude D630 Akku ) Neben Gigabit-Ethernet sind WLAN nach 802.11n sowie die Nahfunk-Technologie Bluetooth 3.0 +HS an Bord. Gegen Aufpreis ist auch ein 3G-UMTS-Modul vom Typ „HP Ic2010“ für das ProBook 4530s erhältlich. Der notwendige Platz dafür ist bereits angelegt, der notwendige Sockel sowie die Antennen fehlen aber, ( Akku Acer Aspire 5100 ) wodurch ein nachträglicher Einbau nicht möglich ist.

Der Lieferumfang ist kostenorientiert ausgerichtet und es wird nur das Nötigste geboten. Neben dem Gerät selbst ist ein 65 Watt Netzteil mit Netzkabel, ein 6-Zellen-Akku mit 47 Wattstunden sowie gedruckte Dokumentationen enthalten. ( akku dell vostro 1710 ) Optional bietet HP einiges an Zubehör. Darunter beispielsweise ein großer Akku mit 9 Zellen und 93 Wattstunden, Portreplikatoren, Taschen und ein externes Laufwerk. Ähnlich verhält es sich bei der vorinstallierten Software. ( Sony VGP-BPS22A Akku ) Neben Microsoft Office 2010 Starter sind zahlreiche Freeware-Programme sowie die übliche Testversion eines Anti-Viren Schutzes im Paket enthalten.

Mit einer Garantielaufzeit von nur 12 Monaten mit Bring-In-Service bewegt sich die Service-Leistung im unteren Bereich.( Akku Sony VGP-BPS22 ) Die hochpreisigeren Business-Notebooks von HP kommen im Vergleich mit einem Standard von 36 Monaten.( Sony VGP-BPS8A Akku ) Auch viele Consumer-Notebooks bieten meist ein besseres Paket samt Pick-up & Return-Service. Gegen Aufpreis lässt sich die Garantie des Testgerätes auf maximal 60 Monate erweitern.

Passend zum neuen Design hat nun endlich auch die Tastatur eine Auffrischung erfahren.( Sony VGP-BPS8 Akku ) Bei gleicher Tastenbeschriftung wirkt das Chiclet-Style Layout sehr aufgeräumt und großzügig. Im Vergleich zum Vorgänger mit Edge-to-Edge Design ist das Eingabegerät nun im Gehäuse einlassen, wirkt aber dennoch großzügig. Bei einer Tastengröße von 15 x 15 Millimetern hat sogar noch ein vollwertiger Ziffernblock platz,( Akku VGP-BPS13A/B ) ohne das es zu stören Sparmaßnahmen gekommen ist. Lediglich die Pfeiltasten wurde in ihren Abmessungen ein wenig beschnitten.

Die Tasten bieten bei einem kurzen Hubweg einen sehr deutlichen Druckpunkt.( Sony VGP-BPS9A/B Akku ) Insgesamt ist das subjektive Gefühl gut, wobei die straffe Auslegung der Tasten und das damit ein wenig ruckelige Tippen gefallen muss. Der sehr stabile Untergrund ist aber als ein positives Merkmal hervorzuheben. Die gebotenen Fn-Funktionen setzen sich durch kleine Symbole von den restlichen Tasten sichtbar ab.( Akku VGP-BPS9 ) Auf Zusatztasten oberhalb der Tastatur verzichtet HP größtenteils. Zwei kleine Tasten für das Starten des Internetbrowsers sowie die Verwaltung der Mobiltechnologien erscheinen aber sinnvoll und passen gut in das Bild. Eine optionale Tastaturhintergrundbeleuchtung hätte den guten Eindruck abgerundet.

Touchpad

Das Touchpad ist gewachsen und bietet bei Abmessungen von 93 x 53 Millimetern (B x H) und einer nutzbaren Diagonale von 10,6 Zentimetern eine angenehme Oberfläche mit guten Gleiteigenschaften. Das Gerät von Synaptics nennt sich LuxPad V7.5 und unterstützt Multi-Touch Gesten.（Akku Sony VGP-BPS9/B ） Die altbewährten Scrollbalken am Rand sind nicht vorhanden und lassen sich auch nicht über die Einstellungen aktivieren. Andererseits ist das Arbeiten mit den Gesten recht problemlos möglich. Die Mausersatztasten sind in der passenden Farbe lackiert und die physikalische Trennung gefällt. Auch der klare Druckpunkt, （VGP-BPS9/S Akku ） der kurze Hub sowie die geringe Geräuschentwicklung sind Pluspunkte.
