1 Introduction
This manual provides guidance for users of the Health Technology Portal, the online route for the submission of outline proposals to the Health Technology Devices (HTD) Program of the Department of Health.The mission of the HTD program is to stimulate, commission and monitor collaborative. research projects on new and improved health technology devices which improve the health and wealth of the UK.The Health Technology Portal will be the primary interface for Department of Health science and technology transfer sponsorship with industrial partners sharing project costs.The aim is to streamline the presentation and processing of short outline applications and to select those projects that are suitable for development into full project proposals.
2 Overview
The Health Technology Portal is an interactive website that enables you to create, save and subsequently edit outline project proposals prior to their submission for review for funding under the HTD program.Whylst under development only you and your project partners can review the application using a password that you set. Finally, when the outline proposal is complete you are able to submit this for review.The review of your outline proposal will also be managed through the Portal, which can enable communications between the applicant and the HTD reviewers and Program Management Committee .When the review is complete the outcome will be communicated to you, again using the Portal, and if successful you will be invited to prepare a full project proposal.
3 Before
You Start The interactive nature of the Health Technology Portal does use some of the most recent functions of Internet browsers and to gain full use of the site you might need to upgrade your Internet software to Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 and above or Netscape 6 and above. Whichever browser you are using, you must have the “JavaScript” facility enabled. Instructions on how to do this and other specific requirements for this site can be reached through the “FAQ” menu item on the Portal.
-Your screen will show the “Home page” for the Portal as shown.The screen is set out into four areas that will remain throughout your use of the site.The top portion of the screen contains the Health Technology Portal banner and also the menu items that include much information describing the HTD program and other information relating to the use of the Portal. Below this top banner are three columns.The left column will provide your login function and will subsequently show the functions of the Portal.The central column is where you will input your information into the Portal and the right hand column will provide other information and advice to help you as you proceed to create your outline application.
5 Registration
To begin to use the Portal you must first register as a member.This is necessary to ensure that we are able to contact you if necessary and to prevent unauthorised use of the Portal facilities.Click the REGISTER link in the left hand column Please review the Terms and conditions of use of the Portal and click the appropriate button below the text box.You can use the vertical scroll bars to move through the text and to reach the button to accept the terms and conditions.If the terms and conditions are accepted, you will be asked to enter your personal details in the registration page – you can edit these later – you must include information in those boxes marked with a red asterisk. Importantly, the Member ID and Password you enter must be used when you login later to the Portal.You confirm your password by re-typing this and you can also leave a hint in case you loose your password.
