It’s been 13 months since I came to Hawaii.
I fell in love to this island 5 years ago. At then, I was here as a tourist.
I loved the ocean, the sky, the wind, the culture, and people in Hawaii.
So I searched for a way to live in Hawaii.
I found a visa program called J-1 internship program which gives me an opportunity to experience business culture in the US for up to 12months.
So I quit my job that I had for 7 years. I applied for J-1 visa and made my way to Hawaii in 2011, August. It was a big decision for me to quit my job. However, I’m glad I did.
For the first few months in Hawaii, it was not easy living on my own in a completely different environment and culture. Also, there were a lot of things to learn at work. I got so stressed out that there were times that I wanted to go back to Japan. However, my co-workers were very kind and supportive so I was able to continue my job and complete my one year.
I have grown A LOT within this one year. I think differently and I don’t hesitate to try new things now. I also learned how to take things easy.
I met the most wonderful people here and I just don’t know how to express how blessed I am. I am so proud of myself and thankful to everyone who supported me.
I will miss Hawaii a lot. I hope I can come back here soon.
Aloha and A hui hou everyone!
