Fifth Space Adventures Client Announces Trip to International Space Station

Charles Simonyi, software pioneer and Intentional Software CEO has announced his trip to the International Space Station.

Dr. Simonyi came to the United States at the age of 17 to study engineering and computer science. He was instrumental in the development of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. An accomplished aviator, he has logged over 2,000 hours in helicopters and airplanes. As part of his preparations for the mission, Dr. Simonyi is currently training in Star City, Moscow at the Yuri Gagarin Training Centre. During his eight-day stay aboard the ISS, he will assist several international space agencies by conducting experiments.

Charles has expressed his interest in technologies utilized by the American and Russian space programs. Dr. Simonyi explained "As an engineer, I look forward to studying the different engineering approaches."

Charles is scheduled to launch March 9, 2007.

　　これによると、次の国際宇宙ステーションへのツアー候補者がIntentional Software社 CEOのCharles Simonyi博士に決定し、トレーニングに入ったようです。
　これまでに宇宙に行った人は449人でCharles Simonyi氏の宇宙旅行が実現すると、４５０人になります。延べ人数では現在９９９人、Simonyi氏でようやく１０００人です。まだ延べ人数でも１０００人にも満たないのですね。ちなみに、コロンブスの第２回航海の総人数約１０００人、戦国時代アユタヤに居住している日本人の総人数は１０００人で２倍以上です。宇宙開発はまだ初期のステージなのです。私が生きているうちに１千万円程度で実現できる世の中になればいいなと思っています。
