わが子よ、主の懲らしめを
軽んじてはならない。
その戒めを嫌ってはならない。
主は愛する者を戒められる。
あたかも父がその愛する子を
戒めるように。

知恵を求めて得る人、
悟りを得る人はさいわいである。
Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
the man who gets understanding.
知恵によって得るものは、
銀によって得るものにまさり、
その利益は精金よりも良い。
For her good profit is better than
getting silver, and her return is
better than fine gold.
知恵は宝石よりも尊く、
あなたの望む何物も、
これと比べるに足りない。
She is more precious than rubies.
None of the things you can desire
are to be compared to her.
その右の手には長寿があり、
左の手には富と、誉がある。
Length of days is in her right hand.
In her left hand are riches and honor.
その道は楽しい道であり、
その道筋はみな平安である。
Her ways are ways of pleasantness.
All her paths are peace.
知恵は、これを捕える者には
命の木である。
これをしっかり捕える人は
幸せな者である。
She is a tree of life to those
who lay hold of her.
Happy is everyone who retains her.
主は知恵をもって地の基をすえ、
悟りをもって天を定められた。
By wisdom Yahweh founded the earth.
By understanding,
he established the heavens.
その知識によって
海はわきいで、
雲は露をそそぐ。
By his knowledge,
the depths were broken up,
and the skies drop down the dew.
わが子よ、確かな知恵と、
慎みとを守って、それを
あなたの目から離してはならない。
My son, let them not depart
from your eyes.
Keep sound wisdom and discretion:
それはあなたの魂の命となり
あなたの首の飾りとなる。
so they will be life to your soul,
and grace for your neck.
こうして、あなたは安らかに
自分の道を行き、あなたの足は
つまずくことがない。
Then you shall walk in your way
securely. Your foot won't stumble.

Proverbs chapter 3 ；24～27
あなたは座しているとき、
恐れることはなく、伏すとき、
あなたの眠りはここちよい。
When you lie down,
you will not be afraid.
Yes, you will lie down,
and your sleep will be sweet.
あなたはにわかに起る恐怖を
恐れることなく、
悪しき者の滅びが来ても、
それを恐れることはない。
Don't be afraid of sudden fear,
neither of the desolation
of the wicked, when it comes:
これは主があなたの信頼する者であり、
あなたの足を守って、
わなに捕われさせられないからである。
for Yahweh will be your confidence,
and will keep your foot from being taken.
あなたの手に善をなす力があるなら、
これをなすべき人になすことを
さし控えてはならない。
Don't withhold good from those
to whom it is due,
when it is in the power
of your hand to do it.
