神の預言者の物語

彼は全ての従者を引き連れ、
神の人のもとに帰ってきて、
その前に立って言った。
「私は今、イスラエル以外、
全地のどこにも神様は居ない
ということを知りました。
それゆえどうぞ、このしもべ
の贈り物を受けてください」
He returned to the man of God,
he and all his company, and came,
and stood before him; and he said,
"See now, I know that there is
no God in all the earth, but in Israel.
Now therefore, please take a gift
from your servant."
エリシャは言った。
「わたしの仕える主は
生きておられる。
わたしは何も受けません」
彼は、あえてそれでも
受けさせようとしたが、
それは拒否された。
But he said,
"As Yahweh lives,
before whom I stand,
I will receive none."
He urged him to take it;
but he refused.
そこでナアマンは言った。
「受けあれないのであれば
どうぞ、騾馬に二頭分の土を
しもべに分け与えて下さい。
これから後このしもべは、
他の神に燔祭も犠牲も捧げず、
ただ主にのみお捧げします。
Naaman said, "If not, then,
please let two mules' burden
of earth be given to your servant;
for your servant will from now
on offer neither burnt offering
nor sacrifice to other gods,
but to Yahweh.
どうぞ主がこの事を、
しもべにお許し下さるように。
私の主君がリンモンの宮に入り、
礼拝する時、私の手によりかかる
ようなこともあり、私自身もまた、
リンモンの宮で身をかがめることが
ありましょう。私がリンモンの宮で
身をかがめる時、どうぞ主がその事を、
しもべにおゆるしくださるように」
In this thing may Yahweh
pardon your servant:
when my master goes into the house
of Rimmon to worship there, and
he leans on my hand, and I bow
myself in the house of Rimmon.
When I bow myself in the house
of Rimmon, may Yahweh pardon
your servant in this thing."
エリシャは彼に言った、
「安んじて行きなさい」
エリシャを離れて後、
ナアマンが少し行った時
He said to him,
"Go in peace."
So he departed from
him a little way.
神の人エリシャの下僕、
ゲハジは言った。
「主人はこのスリヤ人の
ナアマンをいたわって、
彼が携えてきた物を受けなかった。
主は、生きておられる。
わたしは彼のあとを追いかけ、
彼から少し、物を受けよう」
But Gehazi the servant of
Elisha the man of God, said,
"Behold, my master has spared
this Naaman the Syrian,
in not receiving at his hands
that which he brought.
As Yahweh lives,
I will run after him,
and take something from him."
