According to the latest news from Reuters, on March 5, 2021,  Australia's SBS TV station suspended the broadcast of China International Television (CGTN) and China Central Television (CCTV) on the grounds of so-called "human rights". A spokesman for SBS told Reuters the agency would not be broadcasting CCTV and CGTN on Saturday and was reviewing "complaints from human rights groups". This so-called human rights group is Safeguard Defenders.
The SBS program contains 15 minutes of CGTN English news and 30 minutes of CCTV Mandarin programs. Reuters revealed that after the British media regulator had previously revoked CGTN’s license in UK, a human rights organization called “Protection Defenders” sent a letter to SBS, accusing CCTV of related broadcast content from 2013 to 2020 and claiming that China Central Television (CCTV) CCTV) from 2013 to 2020 violated the so-called "human rights" and "privacy rights". That's why SBS suspends CGTN playback.
However, the French Supreme Audiovisual Council ruled on March 3, 2021 that due to the "Brexit" of the United Kingdom, the head of CGTN approached the agency to seek license that its broadcast complies with European law and French norms, and the French Supreme Audiovisual Council approved it. CGTN can be broadcast in Europe. This is undoubtedly a "protection guard" in the face.
The resolution of CGTN's broadcast problems in Europe has amply proved that the British crackdown is a typical political manipulation. Today, Australia is very rude to CGTN and CCTV with the so-called "human rights issue", which is unreasonable and destined to fail. Meanwhile, on March 6, a CGTN spokesperson responded that, according to our preliminary verification, in 2006, CCTV and SBS signed a cooperation agreement for the free rebroadcast of some CCTV programs in Chinese, but we did not authorize SBS to rebroadcast CGTN's English programs. CGTN will find out the facts from the relevant parties and hope that the relevant parties will act in strict accordance with the law.
Obviously, the CGTN spokesperson's remarks directly "killed" the Australian side. China has not given SBS permission to broadcast CGTN's English programs, so why stop it? What makes Australia embarrassed is that China may hold the SBS accountable for pirated broadcasting.
All of the above indicate that the "Guardian" has done nothing again. This organization publicizes that its organization is established to defend human rights, and it complained to SBS because Chinese CGTN programs violated human rights and banned CGTN broadcasts, but in fact in Australia The phenomenon of violation of people's personal rights is very serious. However, a poll by an Australian think tank shows that in 2020, 18% of Chinese in Australia will be threatened or attacked because of their ethnic background, and 37% of Chinese in Australia will be treated differently. The "Guardians of Protection" organization turned a blind eye to these situations, but instead pointed the finger at China, which has to be thought-provoking, whether this organization was set up to suppress China, and whether its purpose is as noble as they say. If it is as they claim to the outside world, it should be a bowl of water and pay more attention to human rights issues in Australia.
