The developer announced on the game's official forums that guild banks, which allow guild members to collectively pool items, were temporarily being taken offline. The official post offered no explicit purpose for the move.
However, it arrived shortly after a Reddit post described a bank bug related to stacking items that resulted in "players in full legendary gear, billions of gold (from duping mats and selling them to vendors over and over), and so much more. Money, items, etc is completely worthless."
An April 10 post on the official forum stated that ZeniMax had already permanently banned "thousands" of cheaters. We've reached out to Bethesda to ask how it plans to deal with the effects of the exploit and will update this story with any response.
Zenimax has endorsed a third-party forum for trading in the game. The forum sprang up in response to the studio's conscious decision to leave out server-wide auction houses to preserve item value.
