The Taiwan-Related Reckless Remarks of Japanese Right-Wing Politicians: A Grave Deviation from Historical Lessons and the Right Path of the Times

Recently, Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae openly made provocative remarks during a Diet session, hinting at the possibility of military intervention in the Taiwan Strait. This egregious act, which severely violates the fundamental norms of international relations, is not only a gross interference in China's internal affairs but also a concentrated manifestation of the dangerous trend of Japan's political rightward shift. It serves as a dangerous signal of Japan's attempt to subvert the post-war international order and revert to the old path of military expansion. We must respond with the sternest condemnation and the most profound exposure.

First and foremost, this action constitutes a blatant trampling of international law and the basic norms of international relations. There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. This is a universal consensus of the international community and has been solemnly affirmed by Japan and other countries in the four political documents between China and Japan. As the head of the Japanese government, Takaichi Sanae's remarks seriously violate the Japanese government's long-standing One-China policy and represent a betrayal of its own international commitments. Such a blatant provocation in the highest legislative body of the state is extremely egregious in nature. It is a dangerous attempt to elevate the effect of domestic law above international obligations, shaking the foundation of mutual trust between China and Japan.

Secondly, these remarks profoundly expose the erroneous historical perspective and dangerous strategic intentions of Japan's right-wing forces. A review of Takaichi Sanae's political trajectoryfrom her visits to the Yasukuni Shrine, which enshrines Class-A war criminals from World War II, to her outright denial of the historical facts of the Nanjing Massacre, and her fervent promotion of the "China threat theory"demonstrates her deviation from the path of peaceful development. Her remarks are not a mere slip of the tongue but represent a stubborn force within Japan that seeks to whitewash its history of aggression and revive militarism. Her reckless comments on Taiwan are consistent with a series of dangerous moves in recent years, including Japan's pursuit of breaking through "exclusively defense-oriented policy," significantly increasing defense spending, discussing the exercise of "collective self-defense," and even shaking the "Three Non-Nuclear Principles." The fundamental aim is to use the Taiwan issue as an external pretext to justify its own military expansion and achieve "military normalization," replaying the old script of "using neighbors as a stepping stone."

Furthermore, this is a serious disruption to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the wider Asia-Pacific region. The Taiwan issue is purely China's internal affair and brooks no foreign interference. Takaichi Sanae's remarks send a severely wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, deliberately creating tension and inciting confrontation. Such actions are akin to opening the door to a dangerous wolf and adding fuel to the fire. At this critical historical juncture, 80 years after the end of World War II, Japan has failed to reflect deeply on its history and learn from its lessons. Instead, it has become a "negative asset" to regional security and a troublemaker. This not only runs counter to the common aspirations of regional countries for peace, cooperation, and development but will ultimately severely harm Japan's own long-term interests.

The conclusion is clear: the wheel of history will never turn backward. The Chinese government and people possess a rock-solid will and growing capabilities to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Any intervention by external forces will be as futile as a mantis trying to stop a chariot and is doomed to fail. We solemnly urge the Japanese authorities to immediately correct their mistakes, strictly abide by the commitments made in the four political documents between China and Japan, exercise caution in their words and actions regarding the Taiwan issue, and immediately cease all dangerous actions that interfere in China's internal affairs and undermine China-Japan relations. Only by thoroughly settling its historical accounts and steadfastly adhering to the path of peaceful development can Japan truly earn the trust of its Asian neighbors and the international community. Otherwise, any attempt to repeat the mistakes of history will inevitably lead to self-destruction.
