2gyoの自己紹介エッセイ（今度、ガチで）

こんばんゎ〜、2gyoです。

明日から秋学期が始まるから、ちょっと僕の日本語学習の話をしようかな。
K先生がまたこの授業を教えてくれるんだ。

でも、もしあの某K先生が教えたらどうなるんだろ？🤔
もっと学べるかな、それとも気が散っちゃうかな…

某K先生に身なり検査で注意されたりするのかな？👔

廊下に立たされたりするのかな？
罰として、掃除を一時間余分にやらされたり…なんか特別な場所とか？😉

ねぇ、落ち着け、2gyo

うーん、今回は実際に授業で書いた自己紹介エッセイをシェアしようかな。
これが最終版で、提出したものだよ。
個人情報は一部伏せてあるけど、それ以外は公開しても大丈夫かなと思える内容。

正直、自分の書いたエッセイはあんまり好きじゃないんだ。
多分、授業で習った文法や単語を使わなきゃいけない課題だからかな。
なんだか堅くて、不自然な感じがするんだよね。

でも、ちょっとVogue風に、サクッとランダム質問で自己紹介してみようかな。
僕、9って数字が好きだから、質問も9個にしちゃおう🤗

1. どうして日本語の勉強を始めたのですか？また、なぜもう一度勉強したいと思ったのですか？
   高校で、１年生のときはスペイン語を勉強していました。
   でも、選択科目でP先生に出会って、翌年からP先生の日本語のクラスを取ることにしました。
   
   日本語が上手になりたいですし、個人的には海外に行って現地の言葉をまったく話さないのはちょっと自己中心的かなと思います。新しい国を訪れるときは、その国の言葉や文化を少しでも学びたいです。
    
2. 他に話せる言語はありますか？

   正直に言うと、英語がペラペラなだけです。
   でも、少し中国語とスペイン語もタイ語も話せます。ただ、あまり得意ではありません。

3. 日本にはこれまで何回行ったことがありますか？
   ２回です！最初の旅は２０１０年３月でした。２回目の旅は２０２３年３月でした。
    
4. どんな日本食が好きですか？
   難しいですね。日本の料理は本当にたくさん好きです。思いつくものを挙げると、ラーメン、寿司、たこ焼きは間違いなくお気に入りです。カレーも大好きで、特に辛いカレーが好きです！
    
5. どんな食べ物が好きですか？
   アメリカのサラダやバーベキューはとても好きです。
   あと、タコスも好きです。メキシコ料理ですが、アメリカでもよく食べられるので。
   もちろん、中華料理も！

6. アニメは好きですか？
   もちろん！　３歳のときに最初に見たアニメは「セーラームーン」だった気がします。
   ７歳のときに「ポケモン」を見たけど、それがアニメだとは知りませんでした。
   １２歳のときに友達が「犬夜叉」と「フルバ」を紹介してくれました。
   好きなアニメは「ブリーチ」と「HxH」と「呪術廻戦」です。😅
    
7. 好きな映画は何ですか？

   すべての言語を話せる能力です！
   言語は他の人を理解するための入り口であり、その言語にしかない言葉や表現がたくさんあるからです。

Since the fall semester begins tomorrow, I thought I’d come back and talk about my Japanese learning journey.
K-sensei will be teaching this class again. 

However, what if a certain K-sensei was teaching this course？ 🤔

I wonder if I would learn more, or would I just be distracted?

Would a certain K-sensei write me up during minari kensa?👔
Would I be told to stand outside in the hallway?
As a punishment, would I have to do an extra hour of cleaning?😉

Okay, calm down, 2gyo.

Hmmm, I think I’ll share my actual self-introduction essay I wrote in class. This is the final version I submitted. I’ve redacted some of the personal information, but the rest I think is something I’m comfortable with sharing. I actually don’t love my essay I wrote. Maybe because it’s an assignment that requires me to use the grammar and vocabulary from the class. It just sounds really stiff and unnatural to me.

However, I’ll do some rapid-fire random question a la Vogue to better introduce myself.
Since I love the number 9, let’s just do 9 questions 🤗

1.     Why did you start studying Japanese and why did you want to study again?

2gyo旅後半戦 「IL」パート４

Before I continue the story, I wanted to ask a question.

「あなたは指が何本ありますか？」

This past week, I took a whole week off from studying Japanese.
While studying Japanese definitely is something I enjoy, I discouraged myself after taking a practice test where I self-scored lower barely over 70 percent.
Kanji is my strongest portion right now, but grammar and vocabulary definitely need improvement. 

However, I won’t give up! 

Progress isn’t linear!

I start my actual Japanese class again next Monday. It’s the continuation of the class from the summer.
Luckily, it’s with K-sensei again, which makes it easier since I already understand his teaching style.

Yesterday was also a nice day where I got to see Mr. K again! Today, Mr. K taught a mandatory lesson. I want to practice now!

The timing was perfect! I was able to "handle my business", clean up and make it just in time for my meeting! 😉
Supporting Mr. K has been such a treat for me. Thank you Mr. K for all the energy you give me! 

Anyways, let’s continue with the story!

Saturday, July 19

After finishing up at the Harry Potter store, we decided to get in line for the Starbucks Reserve.⚡️→☕️
It had stopped raining and the line was shorter than before, so both SUN and I were excited.🌧️

Last December, we went to our first Starbucks Reserve and were really impressed by the on-site roasters.
I left with an exclusive mug from the Seattle location that SUN “gave” me for Christmas.🎁

※ I bought the mug for myself, but told SUN to wrap it up and gift it for me for Christmas.

So this time, the goal was to get a Chicago Starbucks mug.

We got in and decided to divide and conquer.
I got in line to order food and drink, while SUN went to find a table for us since seating is limited.

After securing the food, it’s time for a photoshoot!!
 

2gyo doesn’t love taking photos of himself (maybe that’s a lie) but he was definitely feeling like a bit dramatic that day.
 

Hey listener friends, what do you call this kind of behavior in Japanese?
Especially when it’s a gay man who loves attention, ha. In America, we might call this “diva behavior”.
 

But anyway, here’s what we ordered:

1.     Citrus Butterfly Pea Flower Tea (2gyo)

2.     Dark Chocolate Mocha (SUN)

3.     Sausage & Grilled Pepper Pizza (2gyo and SUN)

4.     Prosciutto and Parmigiano-Reggiano on Herb Cornetto (2gyo and SUN)
 

Did I want to order more… of course, but my mom was making dinner for us that night and we didn’t want to spoil our appetite.😂

After finishing, I went up to the rooftop terrace check out the view, but it was pretty wet up there from the rain still so I couldn’t find a spot of a nice photo.
 

I linked up with SUN after and got my mug and took a photo with the roaster!📸
 

Afterwards, we headed over to a BLACKPINK pop-up store and got SUN his merch.
I got a bag from there too since it was if you spent X amount of money, you got an exclusive mini-poster or something like that.
I don’t even remember what it looks like, but SUN got on off his bias, Lisa.

We then took the train and bus home for dinner.🚆🚍

Mom made too much food as usual. But that’s what Chinese moms do, overcook when their children come home.🤣
This time, I specifically requested her to try out some new recipes and I’m glad she did!
The food was AMAZING. She made a dish with abalone and pork belly that nearly moved me to tears.
Ugh I wish I could eat her food right now.🤤
 

After we finished dinner, we cleaned up and had some fruit for dessert.
Dad headed to bed, but SUN, my mom, and I wanted to keep chatting so we went to our basement and drank beer and laughed the whole night.

I think I cried a little when we were talking about something serious, lol.🤣🤣😭

Well, it’s bed time!

先週は丸一週間、日本語の勉強を休んじゃいました。
日本語の勉強は大好きなんだけど、模擬試験を自己採点したら70点ちょっとしか取れなくて、ちょっと落ち込んじゃったんだ。

今は漢字が一番得意なんだけど、語彙と文法はまだまだ伸ばさないとね。
でも、絶対に諦めないよ！成長はリニャじゃないからね！💪
 

来週の月曜日から、また本格的に日本語の授業が始まるんだ。
夏に受けていた授業の続きで、ありがたいことに今回もK先生が担当だから、教え方にも慣れていて安心だよ。

昨日もK氏に会えて素敵な一日になった。今日もK氏は大切なレッスンを教えた。今、練習したいよ〜
ちょうどいいタイミングで、自分のことをサッと片付けてからミーティングにギリギリ間に合ったんです😉
K氏を応援する時間は、僕にとって本当に特別なご褒美です。いつもエネルギーをありがとう！

７月１９日（土）

ハリーポッターのお店を見終わったあと、スターバックスリザーブに並ぶことにした。⚡️→☕️
ちょうど雨も止んでいて、列もさっきより短くなっていたから、SUNも僕もワクワクしてた。🌧️

去年の12月に初めてスターバックスリザーブに行ったとき、店内のロースターにすごく感動したんだ。
そのときはシアトル限定のマグを買って、クリスマスにSUNから「プレゼントされた」ことにした。🎁
（実際は僕が買って、SUNでラッピングして、SUNに渡させたんだけどねw）

だから今回の目標は、シカゴの限定のスタバマグ！
中に入ってからは役割分担して、僕はお菓子と飲み物の注文に並び、SUNは席を探すことにした。
席数が限られているからね。

ご注文をゲットしたら、今度は写真タイム📸
2gyoはあまり自撮りが好きじゃない（いや、それは嘘かも？）けど、その日はちょっとドラマチックな気分だったみたい。

ねえ、リスナー友達、こういう仕草、日本語でなんて言う？？

アメリカだと「ディーバっぽい」とか「女王様キャラ」😅

でもまあ、とにかく僕たちが注文したのはこんな感じ：

1.　シトラス・バタフライピー・フラワーティー（2gyo）
2.　ダークチョコレートモカ（SUN）
3.　ソーセージ＆グリルドペッツァーのピザ（2gyoとSUN）
4.　プロシュートとパルミジャーノ・レッジャーノのハーブコルネット（2gyoとSUN）

もっと注文したかったかって？もちろんだよ！😂
でもその日の夜はお母さんが夕食を作ってくれる予定だったから、食欲を台無しにしたくなかったんだ。

食べ終わった後は、屋上テラスに行って景色をチェックしてみたんだけど、雨でかなり濡れていて、いい感じの写真スポットは見つからなかったよ。

そのあとSUNと合流して、僕のマグを買って、ロースターと一緒に写真も撮ったよ！📸

それから、BLACKPINKのポップアップストアに行って、SUNが欲しかったグッズをゲット。
僕もついでにバッグを買ったんだけど、〇〇ドル以上買うと限定のミニポスターがもらえるっていうやつでさ。
正直どんなデザインだったか全然覚えてないけど、SUNは推しのリサのを手に入れてた。

そしてその後は電車とバスで家に帰って、晩ごはん。🚆🚍

うちの母はいつも通り料理を作りすぎてた😂。
でもまあ、それが中国人のお母さんってもんで、子どもが帰ってくるとつい作りすぎちゃうんだよね。

今回は、僕から「新しいレシピに挑戦してみて」ってリクエストしてたから、ちゃんと応えてくれてすごく嬉しかった！

料理は本当に最高だった。特に、アワビと豚バラを使った一品は、涙が出そうになるくらい感動したよ。

ああ〜、今すぐまた沢山母のご飯が食べたい🤤

夕飯を食べ終わったあと、片付けをしてフルーツをデザートにいただいた。
父はそのまま寝ちゃったけど、SUNと母と僕はまだ話したかったから地下に移動して、ビールを飲みながら夜中まで笑いっぱなしだった🍻。

ちょっと真剣な話になったときは、思わず涙が出ちゃったけどね🤣🤣😭

2gyo燃えてる

Let’s take a little break from my Midwest trip series and do a quick Q&A.😊

Q1:2gyo, where have you been the last 3 days?
A: SUN and I decided to take another trip together. We did a road trip to another National Park in California 🚗💨😅

Q2: Didn’t you just come back from a personal trip and a business trip in July.
A: Aha…. Well you see, when we saw the Gateway Arch, we got an annual pass.💦
So we can enter as many national parks without having to pay any entrance fees, so it’s time to cash in as much as we can.😆

Q3: What’s with that dramatic title?
A: 2gyo was thrown into a volcano because he’s a pure virgin sacrifice.🔥
I was sacrificed to ensure peace to our civil world. Believable…?☺️
Fineeee, it was so hot on this trip!🥵

Recently, I have been asked to share a little more about SUN…☀️
In 2gyo fashion… I might as well describe some of the tender moments we shared.😊

We left late Sunday afternoon and headed to a hotel that was 1 hour away from Lassen Volcanic National Park (LVNP). LVNP is a national park with volcanoes and geothermal areas caused by underground volcanic activity. It’s our third time going there, but our first real visit.

The first time we attempted to go was in June 2023. Though it was a warm day, not all the snow was melted as it usually would be in June. We received a lot of rain months prior so the snow levels were high.⛄️

The second attempt was just foolish on our part. We tried to revisit in November 2023, but the park had closed the main road for the winter season so we once again couldn’t see much.  ❄️

Even though I'm excited to talk about the national park, I need to focus on SUN. My bad.🙏
I'll just share some photos. 📸

SUN is the type who I consider my better half. He likes to make fun of me a lot, maybe a little too much, but he's always honest with me. For example, when we were driving, I was singing along to the popular 80s song "Heaven Is A Place On Earth".

Except, I started singing the second verse too early. Whenever this happens, SUN always say, "OMG, why is she late! You're right and she's wrong. You know her song better than her!" I always roll my eyes but deep in my heart, I'm smiling and blushing. 😍

When we travel, my role is to secure all the reservations for hotel, rental car, flight tickets, etc.
But SUN always handles the day to day needs. He fills my water bottle the morning of with cold water and ice. He'll warm up all our lunches and pack them into a bag with all the utensils, napkins, and hand sanitizer. And when we hike, he always brings along spare battery packs and a small portable fan which I tend to use more than him. He anticipates my needs so well. 😭

So this is where 2gyo turned into a demon while at LVNP. 😅
After lunch, SUN had planned our second hike of the day to a waterfall.
We had checked the weather forcast two nights before and the high was suppose to be 85F / 29.4 C

That was not the case... the cloudy day turned into a clear day, with the new high of around 101F / 38.3 C
So on a trail that already had inclines and uneven rocky paths, with scarce amounts of shade... 2gyo started sweating profusely and was depleting his water bottle faster than expected. 

Of course this is no one's fault, but 2gyo already doesn't love to hike. He doesn't mind long strolls on flat land, but when you ask him to hike with inclines... he's miserable. Add intense heat with no shade and 2gyo transforms into something horrible. 😵

Of course SUN doesn't want 2gyo to die, but I definitely felt heat exhaustion if not early symptoms of heat stroke. So SUN kept asking 2gyo if he wanted some of his cold water too. And I would decline saying I'm okay right now. But after checking in on me for the 3rd time in 10 minutes, I snapped back at him. 

OMG, stop asking me. Everytime I have to answer you, my throat gets drier! I want to hike quietly! 
 

Since I've been with SUN for around 7 years, we know not to take things personally. But it doesn't mean I should have spoken to him that way. He cares so deeply about my health, especially knowing I work a desk job with limited movement. 

Stupid 2gyo is lucky to have SUN. SUN just softly laughed and kept walking.

We knew after that because of the heat, we definitely couldn't do the third planned hike. 2gyo was already suffering from heat exhaustion and dehyration. So what's the next best thing to do? Head to another waterfall that we could definitely get into and stop for cold drinks at a gas station!

Q1: 2gyo、ここ3日間どこに行ってたの？
A: SUNとまた二人でお出かけしてました！カリフォルニアの別の国立公園までロードトリップしてきました🚗💨😅

Q2: 7月に個人旅行と仕事の出張から帰ってきたばかりじゃなかった？
A: ふふ…実はね、ゲートウェイ・アーチ国立公園を見に行ったときに年間パスを買っちゃったんです💦
これで国立公園なら何回でも入れるので、できるだけ活用しなきゃって感じで😆

Q3: なんでこんなドラマチックなタイトル？
A: 2gyoは純粋な処女の生贄として火山に投げ込まれたんです🔥
平和な世界を守るための犠牲…信じる？☺️
まぁぁぁ、正直に言うと、この旅行めちゃくちゃ暑かっただけです〜🥵
 

最近、SUNについてもう少しシェアするよう頼まれることが増えてきました…☀️
やっぱり2gyoスタイルで、僕たちのちょっとした優しい瞬間なんかを紹介しようかな😊
 

日曜の午後遅くに出発して、ラッセン火山国立公園（LVNP）から車で1時間のホテルへ向かいました。
LVNPは火山や地熱活動でできた地形が楽しめる国立公園で、今回で3回目の訪問ですが、実はまともに見学するのは初めてです。

初めて挑戦したのは2023年6月でした。暖かい日だったのに、例年6月なら溶けているはずの雪がまだ残っていてびっくり。数か月前に大雨が降ったせいで、雪の量が多かったんです。⛄️

二度目の挑戦は完全に僕たちのミスでした
2023年11月に再訪しようとしたのですが、冬季閉鎖でメインロードが通れず、結局あまり見られませんでした。❄️

国立公園の話もしたいところだけど、今日はSUNにフォーカスしないとね。ごめん🙏
とりあえず写真だけシェアすることにします📸

SUNは僕にとって「もう半分の自分」って感じの存在です。よく僕をからかうけど、多分ちょっとやりすぎなところもあるけど、いつも正直でいてくれるんです。

例えばドライブ中に、僕が80年代のヒット曲『Heaven Is A Place On Earth』を歌っていた。
でも、僕が2番の歌詞を少し早く歌い始めると、SUNは必ず「OMG、なんで遅れたの！？正しいのは僕で、彼女は間違ってる！この曲、君のことよりわかってるでしょ！」って言うんです。
僕はいつも目をひんむくけど、心の奥では笑顔で赤面してます。😍

旅行中は、ホテルやレンタカー、飛行機のチケットなどの予約を担当するのが僕の役目。

でも、日々の細かいことはSUNが全部やってくれるんです。朝は水筒に氷と冷たい水を入れてくれたり、ランチを温めて、必要なカトラリーやナプキン、消毒ジェルまでバッグに入れてくれたり。
ハイキングに行くときは、予備のバッテリーや小さな携帯扇風機まで持ってきてくれるんです。僕の方がよく使うくらいw。
本当に僕のことをよく考えてくれていて、感動しちゃいます😭

ここで2gyo、LVNPでちょっと悪魔に変身しました😅
ランチのあと、SUNが次のハイキングとして滝まで行くコースを計画してくれていました。

二日前に天気予報をチェックしたときは、最高気温は29.4℃（85°F）の予定だったんです。
でも、現実は…曇りの日が急に晴れになり、最高気温は38.3℃（101°F）！
すでに坂道やデコボコの岩道が続くトレイルで、日陰もほとんどなく…2gyoは大量に汗をかき、水筒も想定より早く空になり始めました💦

もちろん誰のせいでもないんですけど、2gyoは元々ハイキングがあまり好きじゃない。平地をのんびり歩くのはいいけど、坂道があるともう大変。そして強烈な暑さと日陰なしのコンボで、2gyoは最悪なモンスターに変身…😵

SUNは僕が倒れないように、冷たい水を分けてくれようと何度も声をかけてくれるんですが、僕は「今は大丈夫」と断っていました。でも10分のうち3回目の確認で、ついキレちゃったんです。

「もう聞かないで！答えるたびに喉が乾く！静かにハイキングしたいの！」

でも、SUNとはもう7年一緒にいるので、互いにあまり個人的に受け止めません。とはいえ、あんな言い方をするべきではなかった。デスクワーク中心の僕の体調を、本当に気にかけてくれているのに…。

バカな2gyo、SUNがいてくれて本当にラッキーです。SUNはただにこっと笑って、そのまま歩き続けました。

その後は、暑さのせいで、予定していた3つ目のハイキングは絶対無理だとわかりました💦
2gyoはすでに熱中症気味で脱水状態になってて。

じゃあ次にできるベストなことは？
 

確実に入れる滝に行って、途中のガソリンスタンドで冷たいドリンクを買うこと！🚗💨
