①Canの過去形として

誰もが知っている、「～することが出来る」でお馴染みCanの過去形。

I could read hard books when I was 3 years.

三歳の時には難しい本を読むことが出来ました。

She could go to school by herself last week.

先週、彼女は一人で登校出来ました。

ただし、Couldは一般的には過去の能力を示す際に使用され、

一般的な能力ではない行動、また一時的なCanを表す際はwas able toを用いる。

I was able to meet him and gave a letter

彼に会って手紙を渡すことが出来ました。

②丁寧に許可を求める際

～していただけませんでしょうか？～してもよろしいでしょうか？

など、Can you？と聞くよりも丁寧に。

Could you tell me how to fill out this form？

の用紙の記入方法を教えていただけませんか

Could I ask this password?

パスワードをお聞きしてもよろしいでしょうか

③可能性を示す

未来の話において、～しているかもしれないと伝える時。

I could be a mathematics teacher.

数学の先生になってるかもしれない

I could marry your cousin.

私はあなたの従兄弟と結婚するかもしれません。

④控え目な提案

「～しましょうか」「～したらどうですか？」と、はっきりと断言するのではなく

とても控え目な言い回しで相手に負担をかけずに提案することができる表現方法。

（日本人にはもってこいな使い方)

That negotiation has been a bit hard, so we could postpone the sales meeting until next Wednesday.

交渉が難航中ですし、セールス会議は水曜日に延期としましょうか。

I'm sorry, but we don't have stamps, so you could go to another post office or convenience store.

うちは切手を置いていませんので、他の郵便局かコンビニに行くのはいかがでしょうか

⑤何かをしようと思ったけど、出来なかった時

I could have cooked soup, but I didn't do that because my daughter was fussy.

⑥起こる可能性があった事象が起きなかった時</p>

⑦～かもしれないと、推測する時

She could have forgotten our promise.

That restaurant looks enormous. I think it's more massive than your workplace. But you know, even if it seems huge, it doesn't mean that restaurant is famous.

あのレストランはとても大きいね、君の職場よりも大きいと思う。でもいくら大きく見えるからって、人気とは限らないわ。

10, tiny

Very small≪とても小さい.≫

Do you know this tiny doll? I used to play with this tiny doll when I was a kid.

I've gotta～  You've gotta～は「I have to」　「You have to」のカジュアルな言い方、（インフォーマル）

    It's everybody's bucket list, right?

行ってみたいですね。

みんな「行きたい」といいますね。

bucket list死ぬまでにしたい事をリスト化したもの。

日本は誰もが死ぬまでにはいってみたいと思う国ですよねの意味

バイリンガルベイビーさんのYOUTUBE動画で頻繁に使われる「たくさんの」という意味の英語

a lot of / a ton of / a bunch of / plenty of 

a ton of tonは1000kg＝１トンであるように、もともと大重量であることを意味することから

　　　　　　　　「たくさんの、大量の」を意味し、また日本語の「超～」と同じようにやや大げさなニュアンスも含む。

a bunch ofbunchは本来「束、（ブドウなどの）房」など、何かを一まとめにした物事を表すことから

　　　　　　　　　同じ分類の何かが「たくさんある」と言い表すことができる。

　　　　　　　　　Tonよりは量が少ないイメージ。

plenty ofplentyは「十分に、豊富に」を表すことから、「必要以上に何かがたくさんある」　のイメージ。

different than 「～と違う、異なる」

different　≪ than, to, from≫はどれを使っても「異なる」の意味になる。

　Than/主にアメリカで使われる

　To/主にイギリスで使われる

　From/アメリカ・イギリスの両方で使われ、その他の英語圏でも比較的支持がある。

狭くてグルグルする道をナビに勧められた

narrow 「狭い、細い、制限された、心細い」 wide 「広い、幅広な、大きい」

winding「曲がりくねった、らせん状の」  

Smallも同じく「狭い」という意味がありますが、Smallは「狭苦しい」イメージ。

5, Don't scare mammy!

マミーを脅かさないでね！

scare「怖がらせる、脅かす、脅えさせる」

scareは他人に対して行う動作であり、自分自身が恐怖を体験した際は「be scared」を使用する。

　　形容詞「Scary」は「怖がらせるような、恐ろしい、不気味な」を意味するため、

　　I'm scary と言ってしまうと「私は気味の悪い人間です」と意味することとなる。

6, It's getting darker and darker.

暗くなってきている

比較級and比較級　「だんだん～になってきている」

7, I'm only in the mood for like french fries 

   You're only in the mood for french fries?

フライドポテトだけ食べる気分！

それだけ？

I'm in the mood「私は～な気分です」
