Thanks to everyone's support, $20,463

was collected to Yamamoto,

and finally transferred to town on July 28th.

7月28日をもって、全てのアンドラス山元基金

に集められて$20,463が山元町に寄付されました。

The money was transferred to Yamamoto Town

designated for use by the schools.

So the schools will be able to buy what they want

and deduct money from the account.

山元町の学校が使うために寄付されました。

そのため、各学校に必要なものを買うために、

その口座からお金を使うことができます。

It has been a long past few months.

The town is better off than it had been,

but there is still a long and bumpy road

that needs to be traveled until recovery will happen.

震災後の何カ月が、とても長い道のりでした。

町は以前よりずいぶんよくなっています。

しかしまだ、完全に復興するためには、

長く険しい道が続いています。

Talk has finally started about where

to rebuild the train station,

where people can rebuild their houses

(the government doesn't want them close the ocean),

and other basic things.

流されてしまった町のＪＲの駅や人々のを

どこに立て直すかという話し合いが、

やっと始まったところです。

（政府は海の近くに立ててほしくないと思っています）。

I will be leaving Yamamoto on Saturday

as my contract ends.

私は2年間の任期を終え、

山元町を去ることになりました。

本当は1カ月以上前に書きました・・

いままで、パスワードを忘れてしまい、

ずっと更新できませんでした。

すいませんでした。

やっとかきました。

これは私が山元町を去る前に書いたものです。

It has been an exhausting past two weeks

finally trying to tie up loose ends

regarding my departure from Yamamoto in August

and with the Yamamoto Fund,

but things are coming together.

8月で終わる山元町での勤務と

アンドラス山元基金をきちんとしたものにするための、

大変な2週間でした。

しかし、最後にはきちんとできました。

The Rotary Club transferred the contents

of the American account

to the Japanese one this past week,

and now I am going to wait just a little longer

to do the final transfer up to Yamamoto.

アメリカのロータリークラブが日本の

ロータリークラブに先週送金してくれました。

今は山元町に送金する手続きをするために

待っている状態です。

Upon reflection, I honestly think that money

is the best way to aid towns

that have been stricken by the tsunami.

振り返ってみると、津波の被害にあった

町の復興のために送るのが、

物ではなくて、おかねだったのは

本当に最良の判断だったと思います。

Everyday various goods from around Japan

are delivered to our schools,

and in some cases,

the schools cannot even use the items that come.

毎日山元町の学校には日本中から

沢山の物資が送られてきます。

でもある学校ではそれらが

使われることはないのです。

For example, one junior high school received

a ton of tennis rackets as a donation,

but actually does not have a tennis team.

たとえば、私の中学校ではとてもたくさんの

テニスのラケットを送っていただきました。

でも、テニスクラブがなかったのです。

So while the thought counts,

and I understand the desire to send

actual items to people,

money that the school can use to actually buy

what it needs is the most convenient

and effective way to help schools.

人々の温かい気持ちや物を送りたい

という気持ちも理解できます。

でも、お金なら学校に本当に

必要なものを買うことができるのです。

アメリカの大使の方が来ました。

昨日アメリカから$6250が日本の募金の口座に入りました。
それで、アメリカの口座はもう終了になりました。

募金活動はもう少しして、青森のロータリーからの募金を待って、
山元町に渡したいと思っています。


6月の27日にはアメリカの大使と会いました。
ジョン・ルース(John Roos)という方が仙台まで来てくれました。
今回の大震災の内容について1時間くらいはなしました。
山元町はどうなっているとか、私の避難経験はなんだったとか、
アメリカはこれからどうすればいいとか、色々聞かれました。



楽しかったけど、すごく緊張しました。
