TOKYO - Two-time defending Olympic figure skating champion Yuzuru Hanyu was named Most Valuable Skater for the 2019-2020 season in the inaugural ISU Skating Awards held online Saturday.
東京 – オリンピックのフィギュアスケートで2度優勝し、現チャンピオンでもある羽生結弦が、土曜日にオンラインで行われた新設のISUスケーティングアワードにおいて2019-2020シーズンの最も価値あるスケーターに指名された。
The 25-year-old Japanese star was up against fellow men's singles competitor Nathan Chen of the United States, and French ice dance team Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron.
25歳の日本のスターは同じく男子シングルのライバルであるアメリカのネイサン・チェンと、フランスのアイスダンスカップルのガブリエラ・パパダキス/ギヨーム・シゼロン組との対決となっていた。
"In almost every moment of daily life, I'm constantly thinking of figure skating and I'm always hoping to become better and stronger," Hanyu said during the digital ceremony.
「毎日の生活のほぼすべての瞬間を、常にフィギュアスケートのことを考えていますし、いつももっとうまく、もっと強くなりたいと願っています」とオンラインのセレモニーの際に羽生が語っている。
"I spend every day trying to become better at something to be able to do what I couldn't do the day before."

Hanyu took gold at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in February, posting a record-breaking score in the men's short program. He captured additional titles at the NHK Trophy and Skate Canada this season, and finished runner-up to Chen at the ISU Grand Prix Final in December.

Hanyu was also nominated in the best costume category for his "origin" outfit worn during the last half of the season, but lost out to ice dance pair Madison Chock and Evan Bates of the United States.

The winners of this year's International Skating Union (ISU) Skating Awards were announced today at a virtual ceremony.
国際スケート連盟（ISU）の本年度スケーティングアワードの受賞者が本日、バーチャル表彰式で発表された。
Honours were given across seven categories - Most Valuable Skater, Best Costume, Most Entertaining Programme, Best Newcomer, Best Choreographer, Best Coach and Lifetime Achievement Award.
最も価値あるスケーター、最優秀衣装、最優秀エンターテインメントプログラム、最優秀新人、最優秀振付師、最優秀指導者、および最優秀功労者の7つのカテゴリで表彰が行われた。
The virtual ceremony, streamed on the ISU's YouTube channel was hosted by Tanith and Charlie White, and featured singer Aloe Blacc performing his new song "My Way."
