The master Luang Ta Sayud is by far the most happiest person I've ever seen and so are the people who live around him. He posseses a sensitive and awakened awareness having been living close to Nature more than 50 years in forests all around the world and teaching meditation in different countries. This enables him to understand and relate with each person that enters the temple at a deeper level.
Tam Wua Forest Monastery is unique given the relationship of its people with the undescribable environment surrounded by the quietude of Nature. It's a property of the humanity and for humanity. For centuries the caves at the temple were a refuge for many great monks to practise. The environment offers a safe and protected place for a proper mental development training close to the real Nature.
Mae Hong Son is the Province with the most amount of mountains and least number of inhabitants per capital. The magic starts on the way from the begining of you journey until you step out of the bus driving through the curves lost in the emptiness of space between the giant mountains and expressive presence of Nature. The monastery has no big buildings or luxury pagodas. The Temple is Nature itself and your Body is part of Nature and it is the best temple you're going to visit.
There are retreats organized specifically for Thai doctors and nurses, teachers and students.
Tradition and Preceptor:
The world-open character of the main master Luang Tah Sayud developed in traveling around the world combined with the essence of surviving alone in forests for many years long is warm and welcoming to everyone who ever wanted to experience meditation. He attends to individuals and societies, serving not only Thai citizens or buddhists, but all nationalities and religions.
For all different levels. Anapanasati - the art of breathing and Samadhi - concentration are the techniques practiced and taught in English at the temple to develop mindfulness - awareness and attention. Together they complement the foundation of Vipassana - insight and wisdom allowing to gain the understanding about yourself and the realization of your true responsibilities in an integrated and harmonic manner with everyone and everything existent in Nature - Dhamma, especially yourself. Also Metta – technique to give your heart a good quality and set your mind in a good state of sharing compassion and loving kindness towards others.

Women and men always stay separated, couples too. There are 32 individual kutis(huts), 4 small group places and 6 dormitories capable of accomodating 50 persons each – the dorms and some kutis have hot shower. Once you arrive you get a simple and thin mattress, blankets and pillow. Your accomodation will depend up on the current availability, once you arrive.
Vegetarian food is cooked on wood fire and offered twice a day. In general thai people donate the food, so they are very selective. The lovely village people those who prepare the meals work hard to take care of the place. They are very clean and loyal in their services offered at the temple. It's always advisable to appreciate them.
There is a hospital in 8 km distance.

From november to february is winter season. It's cold during the nights time, but hot all day long. You need warm clothes. Consider certain inconvenience for being at the forest during the fire season in March/April.
