イクラ、タラに居場所を奪われる…。

When they were little, did they let you touch or preen them?
What about now?
I think it’s quite common that budgies don’t let you preen them after they grew up.
Like many other budgies, Ikura and Tara let me touch and preen them when they were little, but they started refusing my offer when they experienced their first moult.
Well, it’s a bit disappointing, but I want to take it as a sign that they grew up well.
Besides they still stay on my hands and shoulders.
However something must have happened to Tara.
He finished his first moult and it was about 6 months after he was adopted.
He suddenly started sticking to my hands!
He lets me not only preen him, but also wrap him in my hand.
He must have found comfort in my hands, as he loves sticking to either of my left or right hand.
When he is wrapped in my hand, he looks very comfortable and often starts dozing off.
He loves my hand cave too. When he sees it, it’s like he is getting sucked into it.
I sometimes make sure if he still comes to my hand cave... you know, I want to make sure if I still have got magical hands!
I’m not sure why he suddenly loves sticking to my hands.
When he finds Ikura resting on my hand, he always comes and steals the place from Ikura.
So... perhaps he wants to get attention from me?
So far Tara doesn’t think that my hands are his mating partner, so I hope my cave hand will help keep a good relationship with him while I keep an eye on him.
ヒナでお迎えしたときにはカキカキさせてくれたのに、いつの間にかさせてくれなくなった。
こんな話をよく聞きませんか？
イクラもタラも、お迎えしたときにはお触りＯＫ、カキカキもＯＫでしたが、やはりヒナ換羽が始まるころには「飼い主の手はいらない」状態になりました。
寂しさはありますが、相変わらず手や肩には乗ってくれますし、飼い主の手を卒業したのは立派に成長した証。そんな風に受け入れています。
ところが、タラにはその後大きな変化が見られました。
ヒナ換羽も終わり、お迎えしてから半年以上経った頃、急にまた飼い主の手が恋しくなったようで、カキカキさせてくれるだけでなく、ニギコロや手の上にちょこんと乗って居眠りまでするようになりました。
さらに驚いたのが、手に包まれていると安心するようで、飼い主の手に引き寄せられていくタラ。
手にすっぽり覆われていると、安心するのかとても気持ちよさそうに居眠りを始めます。
そんなタラを見て、私は自分の手を「手かまくら」と呼んでいます。
そして、吸引力テストと称し手を動かしたらタラもついてくるか、時々確認しています。
なぜタラがまた飼い主の手を求めるようになったのか、理由はよくわかりません。
ただ、イクラが手にとまっていたりすると、必ず割り込んできます。
もしかしたら、自分に注目してほしいという気持ちが、ひっつき虫になったきっかけなのかもしれません。
発情の原因にならないよう、様子を見ながらこれからもタラとは手かまくらを通じて良好な関係を築いていきたいと思います。
