USA TRIP (California) ~Part 2~

After I left the gas station, I went downtown to Sacramento to find a motel that I could stay with peace of mind. I found “Holiday Inn” in the center of the city and asked someone at the reception desk to confirm if they had some vacancies. It was around 7 pm, so it was full, but there was a smaller motel across the street. I decided to stay there. The price was actually so reasonable that it surprised me, it was just 50 dollars for one night. I was finally able to take a shower and got 1 hour of sleep, and I headed to a dance studio to watch my friend’s dance practice. When I was there, they were practicing for a competition. I was really surprised by their highly skilled performance. After that we introduced ourselves to each other, and my friend took me to her friend’s house to make macaroni and cheese for me. It was my very first time to eat it. I had told her that I wanted to have it in the US one day. But I didn’t expect that I can eat homemade macaroni and cheese on this trip. It was so delicious!! I really appreciated that. Afterwards she took me back to the place I had parked my car. And I was going to get back to the motel. But shortly after I got in the car I fell asleep. I couldn’t stay awake anymore. Next morning I woke up and saw some birthday wishes on Facebook. it reminded me that day was my birthday at the local time in Japan. It was like I had my birthday for 2 days including the US time zone. Well, I headed back to the hotel to checkout. As I came to think about it, I spent 50 bucks only for a shower and 1 hour of sleep. I was just thinking about it while remembered something really important. I had to get my card back immediately! After I got there, I looked into the window. A manager that looked like a nice person was at the cash register. I went in there then I brought the biggest size of soda that I would never be able to finish to the register. He had my credit card in his pocket. He gave it back to me with a kindly look. I apologized to him. He said “It doesn’t matter, are you Japanese by the way?” I said “Yeah, I am, but how do you know I’m Japanese.” and he said “I saw your name on the card and I’ve never seen such a card. This card is valid for any countries?” I answered “Yes, it is. coz it’s by VISA.” He still seemed to wonder. Anyway, I thanked him and left.

Well, that day was the day I went to San Francisco! I drove on the highway while listening to Train! It took around 2 hours to get there. I looked for a place to eat lunch on Trip Adviser. I parked my car and I found a nice cafe. The special lunch menu was Japanese style udon. I decided not to eat it as udon is originally Japanese style. I ordered ABBA burger. I don’t know what it was exactly, but it was so delicious!! The burger was served with fresh vegetables, tomatoes, lettuce and really larger pickles. I really enjoyed it! Afterwards I went to a sightseeing spot for the Golden Gate Bridge. Visiting there was kind of exciting because the bridge always showed up in the opening on Full House that I used to often watch. I took some pictures. And I looked for a motel for that night. I found a motel leading to the route 1 and the receptionist was an elderly man. I asked him where a big shopping mall is when I checked in. He gave me a map that has some lines of the cable bus. He suggested me to go there by bus because parking downtown is expensive. He also changed my money to some 1 dollar bills. According to him they don’t give me change. What a nice person!! I went downtown by bus. I went shopping around Union Square. I bought some souvenirs for my coworkers and some clothes. In the meantime I got hungry so I went to a Jazz bar specialized in sea food. I had some wonderful sea food dishes and the local beer with nice music in the background. I was going to go back straight to the hotel by bus. But I realized that I lost my map… I don’t know where I came here from. But I had a card key for my room written the name of the hotel. So I swung several times to catch a taxi. But no one stopped. First of all I looked for a bus stop and asked a stranger to help me out. She suggested to take a bus and told me that she takes me around the hotel on her way back home. We had a conversation in the bus. I thanked her and finally safely got back to the hotel.

Next day, I went back to Sacramento to meet my friend again. We went to In N Out to have lunch. It’s only for California. I had a burger and fries served with animal styled sauce. Now I miss it. After that she took me to the high school she used to go to.There is a Japanese class as an extra curriculum activity. They invited me to the class to help with their Japanese learning. Around 30 students asked me many questions in Japanese and I answered. Whether I have a girlfriend or not, my favorite kind of food etc… One student asked how old I am. I asked back him how old I look. He said 19 and ask me how I stay looking young. I don’t know!! “But everyone in Japan looks younger than their age.” I answered. No wonder, every time I ordered some alcohol they asked me to show them my ID. So I said I became 28 today as it was my birthday in the US on that day. All students and the teacher sang a birthday song to me together and gave me some lovely candies!! It made me so happy. I had a really wonderful birthday! Time went by so fast and I had to leave Sacrament. I had lots of fun in the city. We said good bye to each other and I headed back to L.A by myself. When I was passing the freeway I saw some wild animals…maybe cows? 7 hours later, I got caught in rush hour near LA. I just forgot that there tends to be a lot of traffic. There is the place I have to visit that night.. I stepped on the gas while imagining I was eating chicken wings between big boobs. I somehow made it. This place was kind of my final destination on this trip. It was Hooters! The chicken was amazing and I fell in love with Blue Cheese Dressing and curly fries. I took some pictures with Hooter’s girls. It was an unforgettable night. I went back to the hotel downtown in Los Angeles. I drank some mojito at a poolside bar inside the hotel. I got tipsy and went to bed. There was only one day I can spend the whole day.

Next morning I went to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. It was too early to go there so I looked for a cafe to fill in the time. I asked a guy getting out of Porsche where the nearest coffee shop is. He took me there and bought me a cup of coffee. We talked a lot on the terrace. He has a Japanese wife and has been to Japan many times. He invited me to his clothing shop later. After I left, I went to Hollywood to take the Hollywood sign photos. On the way back from there, I had a flat tire. It sucked!!! When I was looking for some tools, someone saw me having some trouble and talked me like “Hey, you need some help?” He helped me change a tire. I don’t know what would have done without him. I really appreciated it! Afterwards I visited the clothing shop and talked with him and his wife. As I mentioned earlier the day before I had a birthday, so his wife gave me a T-shirt from one of the goods for sale. That was an amazing birthday present!! I deeply thanked them and left. I went to Santa Monica to buy some souvenirs. I bought some and took many pictures. The sunset at the beach in Santa Monica was really beautiful! It was just like the California I watched in dramas. Well, I finally returned my car and had the last dinner in the US. I had steaks at a restaurant called Flaming’s next to the hotel I stayed at. Last night the bartender told me the steaks there is like Kobe-beef. It was totally learn meat and not close to kobe beef. It was still delicious though. After that I went to the bar. My vacation was about to end. I looked back at this trip while drinking some mojito. Every time I screwed up someone always helped me. Everyone took good care of me. I wouldn’t be able to have such a wonderful trip without them. Seriously I was really surprised by their kindness. I’m very thankful for that and just want say “thank you” to everyone I met. I love California. I need to see more aspects of this country. I decided to come to USA again. Yes, my adventure in the US has just started.

USA TRIP (California)

テーマ:

Hello, guys!
I got one week off and I actually went to California last week. I had been looking forward and waiting for this moment!! It was kind of a long journey.
Well, I left from Japan in the evening on the 27th and arrived in California in the morning that day. It was like time slipped into the past! I flew for 13 hours from Japan to Los Angeles. I had a layover in San Francisco before I got to L.A. I was really exhausted because of the long flight and the jet lag. But I forgot about it and got excited when I looked at outside the airport! I picked up a rental car near LAX. Then I went towards the hotel I stayed at to check in. But on the way to the hotel, I felt nervous while driving on the opposite side of the road, especially when I make a left turn. I got confused at every intersection. Finally I arrived at the hotel and checked in. After that, I went to McDonald’s to compare the taste between America and Japan. I felt that the buns are a little harder and flies are saltier than Japan. And there was one thing that I was surprised about and that is that they offer free refills. I was just about to say “L size of Coke, please” to oder my drink. Talking about refills, every time I poured some soda into my cup, the soda splashed because of the force. It’s WILD! Afterwards I headed to Sacramento to meet my friend. I got used to driving a little on the highway. But I didn’t have enough energy for driving without sleeping. So I decided to have some rest on the side of the road. I found a sign of the camp for a truck drivers. I fell asleep soon. After I got 2 hours of sleep, I kept driving. Gas was getting low, so I stopped over at a gas station to fill my car with gas. But I have no idea how to fill up. I went into the store to ask how to do it. LOL The staff member helped me fill my car with gas.
Finally I arrived in Sacramento and met up with my friend. I gave her some souvenirs from Japan. She took me to a nice restaurant specialized in sandwiches. I had a Poppy Lemon Muffin and Filly Steak Sandwich. That was AWESOME!! And the portion was so much bigger than Japan. I admired the waitress’s hospitality until I came to know that they are doing this for tips. Because they talked to us like “Hey, how are you doing? Is everything okay?” They were so friendly. I couldn’t finish all of the food so I got a box to bring it back. Well, I didn’t have a hotel to stay at in the city so I searched for a motel by myself. And I found a motel that looks reasonable leading to the freeway. After I got out of my car and walked in the direction of the entrance I realized that a guy was behind me. I felt weird. The guy went into the motel after me. And I thought I shouldn’t reserve this motel.
When I was about to get in my car he said “I’m going with you!” and tried to get in my car. So I said “No, you can’t do this. Just go away!” I locked all of the doors and left. I still don’t know what he wanted from me. I was just glad that I didn’t got robbed. After that I went to a gas station again. I decided to pay for gas with my credit card because paying with cash at gas stations in the US bothers me. I inserted my credit card into a receipt slot by mistake… Try as I did, I couldn’t take it out. The card was stuck… I gave up. I asked a staff member to take it out. According to her, it needs a key to open the machine and she doesn’t have it so I had only two choices, I have to somehow take it out by myself or wait for a manager to comes here the next morning after 8 am. That sucked!! I called my credit card company. The operator told me that I can’t cancel my card temporary. It was a difficult decision, making the card no longer useful early or waiting until the next morning. I decided to wait for the manager because staying in the US without credit card is definitely inconvenient and I was just hoping that the manager wouldn’t tell me that the card messed it up and makes a bad use.

2012 STARTED

テーマ:
Hello, everyone! And a very Happy New Year! 2012 started!
I was so busy at the end of the year that I was not able to do house cleaning. I finally did it this morning.

This year's first post is about things to do on Christmas. Why do I have to write about Christmas? Because I haven't done last year's my homework themed "what I would like to do on Christmas". I actually worked consecutively on Christmas eve and Christmas day. So I did nothing. And I ate homemade fried rice and karage as usual. I had at least some chicken. LOL I wish I had a big turkey. I hope I can do something better this year.

Changing the topic, I haven't thought up a new year's resolution yet. I declare my goal's for this year.
1. To improve my English
2. To get good marks on some exams such as TEOIC or EIKEN
3. To enjoy traveling in California
4. To get promoted at work

I will try hard for my plans to work out!
