I bought a book by Masajiro Kawato titled "Bye Bye Black Sheep," and it happens to have his autograph. Kawato was an unparalleled aviator. In May 1942, he joined the Maizuru Naval Air Corps. He received training in the Navy's Type 93 Intermediate Trainer, commonly known as "Red Dragonfly", and the Type 96 Carrier Fighter, and arrived in Rabaul on October 10, 1943, where he fought with Zero Fighters. After the Pacific War, he joined the Japan's Air Self-Defense Force and flew F-86 jet fighters, and after retiring from the Self-Defense Force, he successfully crossed the Pacific Ocean in a Cessna light aircraft.
