Tomorrow is the vernal equinox. In Japan, It is a Buddhist festival called “higan” 彼岸. It literally means the other side of the river.
Once I asked our temple’s monk, “Is it “the hereafter”?
The monk said, “It is a state of enlightenment. And to reach the state is our goal.”
I’m not sure if I can get to the state but we went to our family grave to pray to Buddha and our ancestors including my parents for our safe life and happiness today.
明日はお彼岸なので今日、父母の
お墓に行ってきました。
そして父母に私たちの健康と幸せ
を祈りました。
以前に私たちのお寺のお坊さんに
彼岸とはあの世のことですかと尋
ねたら、必ずしもそうではなく、
悟りを得ることだと言われました。
何か難しいそうですが
当面は家内安全商売繁盛ですね。
