の元となった読売の社説の日本語は，”(独居の高齢者）行政の支援で孤立を防ぎたい”となっている。
私も独居の高齢者であるが，行政などイラン世話。ここは，英語のブログなのでここまでにする。
"防ぎたい”も厄介な日本文。意味的には，命令。私であれば，よりspecificに，
Single‐living elderly person: Support from administrations is requested to prevent isolation from the outside world.

とします。
なお，ワシントンポスト紙の社説は，

となっています。年次教書は短ければいいというものではない。良し悪しは抜きにして，ロシアの大統領のように，国家の将来のビジョンとそのための政策をきちんと自分の言葉でのべるべき。
