How are you?

Hi all! Miles here,

Although we always ask each and every student about their day and how they're doing when they arrive here at Kids World, it's now that time of year when we teach the beginner students more about the phrase "how are you?"
So often, children in Japan only use "I'm fine" as a response - but there are so many more possibilities! Even though it's rudimentary, "how are you" is a really great question to give young students the opportunity to express themselves!
基本的な表現だけど、”how are you?"

I feel like it's something of a personal mission of mine to get my students to tell me something more than "I'm fine". Are they happy? Sad? Tired? Hungry? Bored? Excited? Something else?
”I'm fine."
Being able to choose an appropriate response from several options (as opposed to simply replying with a single, almost automatic response) is the beginning of truly being able to produce the language, which is the first step towards building fluency.

So dear reader, how are you?
How are you?"

Until next time!
