My darling and I had a conference trip to Kyoto last weekends. 
We stayed in a reasonable hotel called Kyoto Tower Hotel.
Believe it or not, the price was only \7,400 for two people
It is about 50 British pounds,
which is approximately 74 American dollars. 
The access is also good
because the hotel is right opposite Kyoto railway station.
But the price does not included meals,
so we had breakfast at a cafe in the station.

One more merit of the hotel users receive free tickets to go up to Kyoto Tower.
We also went there and saw the magnificent city-scape. 
A demerit is that the room is relatevely small
which is often called "unagi no nedoko" in Japanese.
This can be translated English into
"A sleeping place for eel"
because the room is long and narrow.
