Yesterday, my darling and I went to a home party which was held at our colleague's house. 
Actually, there are six English teachers from foreign countries such as the United States, Canada, Britain and Singapore and we sometimes invite our colleagues to our houses.
We just started to work in the new university in Niigata, Japan from April but we already know not only colleagues but also their wives, husbands and children
In Japan, we don't usually have home parties inviting colleagues and their families, so I was a little bit surprised. But I think that it is a nice custom to get to know each other.
Since we have good relationship, I am sure that we can do good job as well.
