先週、韓国・釜山最大のグポ犬肉市場の運営業者と話し合いの場を持ち、食肉処理施設の閉鎖で合意に達したということです。

１００年以上の歴史を持ち、韓国で最大規模の市場のひとつである釜山のグポ食肉市場。
マークさんは先週、犬肉の食肉処理施設や販売店の閉鎖を求め、市場を運営する業者と協議の場を持ちました。同行した通訳には、市場の歴史は古く、マークさんは外国人でもあり、業者は同意しないだろう、と言われたそうですが、最終的に、業者側は犬はじめ鶏、鴨、うさぎなどすべての食肉処理施設の閉鎖と市場の再開発で協力していくことで合意しました。
業者によると、国内外の多くの活動家や保護団体から同様の要求をされ、署名運動が展開されるなどしてきましたが、彼らはやって来て、ただ口論し闘う姿勢を見せるのみで、マークさんのように閉鎖に向けて協働を求めてきた活動家は初めてとのこと。「今日は歴史的な日だ。幸運だと思いなさい」と言われたそうです。

なお、韓国の活動家キム・ナミさんによると、この件について釜山の行政担当者はまだ把握していないとのことで、現段階ではあくまでマークさんと業者間での個人的な取り決めということになるようです。マークさんは、今後行政との接触などもしていくとのことです。
今後の課題として、
①地元行政との連携（来月担当者と面会することで調整中）
②食肉業者の転業支援
グポ市場には２７の食肉処理施設があり（犬が１７、鶏・うさぎ・羊が１０）、長い歴史を持つこれらの施設の閉鎖は決して簡単ではなく、多くの人の協力が必要です。
今後マークさんの団体は、地元企業や関係団体、活動家らと接触し、業者とも連携して市場の再開発に向けた一歩を踏み出すことにしています。
一方こちらは、釜山郊外の食用犬農場兼食肉処理施設から、マークさんらによって他の４７匹と共に救出された「アリ」ちゃん。閉鎖に応じたこの施設は、今後マークさんの支援により転業することとなっています。
My name is Ari, I was rescued by Marc and the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation early yesterday morning, with forty seven other dogs. I am from a slaughterhouse/farm located outside of Busan, and was saved as part of a deal to transition the owner away from his dog slaughter meat business. When I was found, I was in a row of cages that contained the dead and decomposing. Some stolen pets. Some with collars. Marc even believes that I myself had a family. I am currently in intensive care at an animal hospital in Busan, receiving treatment for a skin and lung infection. I am on IV fluids and antibiotics, with two broken ribs. While the prognosis on survival is low, Marc told me the one thing freedom gives to us - is a chance to become anything. My name is Ari, and I believe compassion is the key to all things. And that love, it lasts forever. (Starting today, the slaughterhouse/farm is being dismantled and shut down. アリちゃんは敷地に連なるケージの中から助け出されました。
施設の環境は劣悪で、ケージの中には、息絶え腐敗した亡骸が放置されていました。
複数の犬たちは盗まれた飼い犬と見られ、首輪をしているものも。アリちゃんも飼い犬と見られています。
皮膚や肺の感染症を起こし、肋骨も２本折れているアリちゃんは、現在動物病院で治療を受けていますが、助かる見込みは高くないそうです。。
アリちゃん、助かってほしいですね。
マークさんは、この後中国に渡り活動を続けます。
