As They Get Ready To Go On Hiatus, ARASHI Is Enjoying Their Best Year Yet On The Billboard Charts

ARASHI has been one of the most successful bands in Japan for nearly two decades now, and there are few acts who will ever have a career anywhere near as long or storied as theirs. Last year, they shocked many by scoring the bestselling album in the world with their latest compilation of their hits, 5×20 All the Best! 1999–2019, and their fan base is growing all the time.

The quintet has already stated that they’re going their separate ways when 2020 wraps, even though this year has turned out to be the biggest yet for the band on the Billboard charts, which have oddly been out of reach until very recently.

ARASHI debuts their new single “Whenever You Call” at No. 10 on this week’s World Digital Song Sales chart, a ranking which has largely been dominated by Asian acts in the past several years. The tune ties their own previously-set high point, and it is just their second-ever placement inside the top 10 on the tally.

Just a few weeks ago, their recent single “In The Summer” made it to No. 23.

Amazingly, despite the fact that they have released hundreds of songs and sold millions of albums and digital downloads throughout the years, ARASHI has only charted three songs in America, with two of them making their way to the World Digital Song Sales ranking in 2020.

Last year, they earned their first appearance between Nos. 1 and 10 (and their first win to land anywhere on the roster) with “Turning Up,” which also rose as high as No. 10.

ARASHI may be able to reach the World Digital Song Sales chart again with forthcoming singles before they officially kick off their hiatus, but it’s a bit sad to see them go now, just as America is finally catching on to their talent. Thankfully, their music will always be there, and just because the members are taking some time to pursue other projects, that doesn’t mean there is no hope for more tunes in the future.
