20/Oct/Wed

It’s sooooo cold! I was chilled to the bone!

On Wednesday I went the voluntary work for homeless people. Oh have I written about it before?
I go church every Wednesday and serve coffee, tea, sandwich, and soup for homeless people. All of them are only 10pence (=about 10yen)
I chat with them and I really like it.
One old gentleman told me how I can improve my pronunciation and we discussed about economic situations of our countries.

He drew the picture of mouth and tongue and taught me how to pronounce some words. And recommended me to record my voice and listen to it to compare with native people’s way of speaking.

Then He told me that homeless people in this country can get £45 every week and they can use laundry and bath in accommodation supported by church. I think £45 is enough money to spend a week but most of homeless people use these money for alcohol or drugs. They often beg on the streets but people refuse to give them money because they know how homeless use these money.
He added that if it’s in 60 years ago, these homeless can join in army but not in now.

Oh, and other gentleman told me British joke.

There were 2 Welsh people, 2 Scotch people, and 2 English people on the ship. The Welsh were drunk and the Scotch were fighting , but the English were quiet. Why? Because no one introduced themselves.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

,,,,,,,,Not funny at all.

Well,,, he explained me that they are typical attitude of these people. You know English people rarely talk to stranger so if no one introduce themselves they don’t try to speak to others. However compare to Japan, I think they talk to stranger quite often.

Anyway it was really lovely time for me.

When I talk with local people I get motivation for studying English. If I can speak more, I can communicate with them more.

By the way sometimes I don’t feel like writing my blog but when I stop writing it for a moment, I easily forget how to write,,, Keep doing is one of the important thing.

Bye!
