前職を休職してニューヨーク、インテリアデザインの大学に留学していた時に、
日本の某企業から駐在していた彼らと知り合った。
１日のランチ代１−２ドルしか使えない貧乏学生生活をしていた私にとって、
平日から美味しいものを食べて、仲間と夜まで語り合う彼らの生活は、
ただただ羨ましいばかりだった。
友人と徹夜で大学の課題を仕上げて、一緒に連れて行ってもらった西海岸。
サンタフェの美しい景色や、プエブロ様式のロッジなど、
あの時の思い出は、今でも目に鮮やかに残っている。
日本に帰国してから、外資系企業に勤めた後、起業した彼が、
４年ぶりにニューヨークにマーケットリサーチにやってきた。
私は所用であまり立ち会えなかったけれど、共有した時間は宝物。
日本からの来客があるたびに、改めてニューヨークはすごい街だなと思う。
新鮮な驚きから離れてしまう日常の中で、敢えてその偉大さを再発見。
毎日、もっと丁寧に、もっと繊細に、いろんな感性を磨いていたい。
When I got two-years-off at my previous job and studied at the college, New York school of Interior Design, in New York,
I met friends who were stationed from a Japanese company.
For me who was a poor student who could only use $ 1-2 for a day's lunch fee,
I was just envy them who eat delicious things during weekdays and talk to their friends until mid-night.
My friend and I studied very hard to finish the college's assignment, to go to the west coast with them.
There were beautiful views of Santa Fe and Pueblo style lodges.
The memories of that time are still vivid to the eyes.
After returning to Japan, he worked for a foreign-owned company and then started his company.
He came in New York on business trip for market research.
Though I could not attend so much, we enjoyed our shared time.
Whenever there have visitors from Japan, New York reminds me it is such a great city again.
In the day-to-day activities of being separated from fresh surprises, it dares to rediscover its greatness.
Every day, I want to brush-up various sensitivities more carefully and more delicately.
