In August 2020, 26 years after its release, the used color classic may have the logo thinned or scraped off. The lack of this logo makes me feel down. I decided to use my skill to recreate the logo. I made it just for myself, but I think everyone reading this feels like me.
First of all, the genuine product is made of silk screen, but the color is dark bluish gray. This is the color that was also used in IIe with numeric keypad and GS. Just flip the keycap of the GS keyboard upside down and you will see the lettering plastic, but it looks exactly the same. Since it is impossible to reproduce the exact same color, we chose the closest color in the prototype.
Dry Transfer
There is a sticker that is rubbed called Dry Transfer. The film thickness is not so different from silk screen, and the outline is beautiful. I often use it for guitar head logos. This can be painted from above, and if you make a mistake, you can stick cellophane tape and peel it off. However, it will be strong if it stiffens over time.
First of all, you have to make a solid data. No matter how hard you try to print out on your computer, the dots will appear rough, but the craftsmen I trust will triple my data once and condense it.
It is so detailed that it can be used on the watch dials.
There are cheaper parts using the same method, but I have never seen any better quality. Cheap is not a delicate expression because the fine lines are crushed. Even my electron microscope shows a perfect line. Japanese craftsmanship.
Attention: I’m not responsible for failed installation !
STEP1: Remove a original logo
I intend to faithfully reproduce the mounting logo data. I installed it on several CCs, but there are individual differences. The width is slightly different for some individuals. This is probably because the badge itself is curved. The mounting position was slightly up and down, but there was a difference. Therefore, it is better to erase the original logo. To erase it, lightly rub it with a magic sponge. After rubbing with a magic sponge, it loses a little gloss, so if you use a small amount of compound and polish it with a waste cloth, it will not bother you.
Do not remove the badge as much as possible. It is quite easy to break due to the deterioration of ABS plastic.
STEP2: Degreasing
I always use isopropyl alcohol. It does not melt plastic. Do not use absolute ethanol. The surface of the plastic melts. It's a similar thing. If isopropyl alcohol isn't available, a gasoline draining agent is a good choice. Over 60% of the ingredients are isopropyl alcohol. If you don't have that, you can use zippo oil.
STEP3: Determine position
The decal line is a standard position. However, I pointed out in the previous explanation that it did not go exactly, Please adjust little by little. If they are not attached, they will not adhere. When the position is decided, attach it with masking tape.
STEP4: Rub and transfer
The important thing is not to put too much effort into it. If you can not transfer without applying force, the adhesive surface of Dry Transfer is oxidized. If possible, use up within 3 months.
When transferred, you can see that the color becomes slightly faint when viewed from the surface. Gradually raise the film.
If the logo is a little missing here, you can recover it by putting the film back and rubbing.
STEP5: Rubbing with a release paper
Important!!!
After transfer, it is in a lightly loaded state. It is important to rub to improve the adhesion.
he logo has a film and release paper on the back. This is for adhesion prevention, but will be reused here. *Don't throw it away!
Gently apply this to the logo and rub it further to make it adhere.
The process is over. This logo does not have a protective film, so it cannot withstand severe friction. But it's stronger than you expected.
If you feel like it, you can paint clear from above. This logo is designed to withstand painting from above.
The logo cannot be stocked for a long time due to the expiration date problem. The glue will gradually weaken. Therefore, I cannot keep long-term stock. If you want this, DM me!
Currently there are 3 types of logos. "Color Classic" "Color Classic II" "Mystic”. There are no plans to make anything else. But if you want to make it yourself, I'll help within the scope of my hobby. Thank you!
