　アーネスト・ヘミングウェイの『老人と海』にディマジオに関する記述があり、サイモン&ガーファンクルのヒット曲『ミセス・ロビンソン』、ビリー・ジョエルのヒット曲『ハートにファイア』にもディマジオの名前が出てくる。1975年の映画『さらば愛しき女よ』では、主人公の私立探偵フィリップ・マーロウがディマジオの連続安打記録を気にし続けるという原作小説にはない描写が付け加えられているなど、ディマジオがいかにアメリカ人にとってヒーローであったかが窺える。そのため、ディマジオもそのイメージを保つ為に自分の節制にはとても厳しかったという。

This past spring was the first that I felt tired realized I was growing old. May be was the rotten weather we'd had in LA, may be. it was a rotten cases I'd had mostly chasing a few missing husbands and then casing their wives once I found them in order to get paid, or may be it was just the plain fact that I am tired and growing old.
The only real pleasure I'd had it all was following Joe DiMaggio belting the Apple at an incredible clip for the New York Yankees.
