クリスマスが近づくと、ロウソクに火を灯して、教会のメンバーの家の前で賛美歌を歌うキャンドル・サービスというものに参加していたことがあります。今から５０年ほど前、京都の復活教会に通っていた頃の話です。不思議な巡り合わせですが、最近の「風の集い」でも電気を消し、ロウソクを灯しながら、感謝念仏を唱えることが多くなりました。ヨーロッパでも夜はロウソクを灯して食事する人が多いようですが、あの柔らかい炎は人の心を癒してくれるものです。
I used to sing Christmas Carol in front of church member homes with candles in my hands. It was the story when I was a member of Resurrection Church of Kyoto 50 years ago. Recently, I often turn off electric lights and instead, light candles when people chant “arigato”at the Kazenotsudoi. In Europe, it is nice that people often light candles at the dinner table. The tender flame of candles heals a human heart, indeed.
