ジャンボ
Jambo!
ナイロビの空港でのアナウンスを聞いていたのですが、必ず「ジャンボ」から始まるということが分かりました。ということで今日はスワヒリ語について。ちなみにジャンボはスワヒリ語の挨拶でよく使われます。
When I heard airport announcements in Nairobi, I noticed that all announcements started with “Jambo”. So, I am going to post about Swahili in this article. Jambo is usually used as a greeting in Swahili.
ナイロビの空港です。
ケニヤ-ルワンダは非常に近いため、ウガンダを経由してバスで陸路による国境越えをする人もいるようです。飛行機だとわずか1時間半です。

Because the distance between Kenya and Rwanda is close, some people use buses to cross the border via Uganda. It takes only half an hour by airplane.

”KARIBU”は「ようこそ(Welcome to)」の意味です。

ルワンダの公用語はキニヤルワンダ語、英語、フランス語、スワヒリ語の4言語です。多いですね。
教育言語は英語です。教育言語は2000年代になりフランス語から英語に変更になったと聞きました。フランス語はベルギーによる植民地支配の影響です。
The official languages of Rwanda are four languages. They are Kinyarwanda, English, French and Swahili. It is so many.
The Educational language has been English since the 2000's. I heard that the government changed the education language English from French. And French had been used for a long time due to the colonization by Belgium.
数学の先生が学生時代に使っていた教科書を見せてくれました。フランス語です。つまり彼らの日常の言語はキニヤルワンダ語で、学生時代はフランス語で教育を受け、現在は英語とキニヤルワンダ語で教えています。頭が下がりますね。
Math teacher showed me a textbook which he used when he was a college student. It was written in French. So, he speaks Kinyarwanda as daily language, learned in French when he was a student and teaches by using Kinyarwanda and English now. I just respect them.
生徒たちはキニヤルワンダ語、英語、仏語、スワヒリ語の4言語を学んでいる訳ですが、スワヒリ語の教科書を見せてもらいました。
Our students are learning Kinyarwanda, English, French and Swahili. And I saw a Swahili textbook.

おそらく学校のものです。
This is a textbook of Swahili.
I think it is probably school’s textbook.

近くの国立公園にいそうな動物だと思ったらやはりアカゲラ国立公園でした。
“Wanyamapori Katika mubuga ya Akagera” と書いてありますが、
“Wanyamapori”「野生動物」
“Katika” 「in」
“Mubuga” 「公園」
“Ya” 「of」
つまり「アカゲラ公園の野生動物」という意味です。
I thought these animals would live in the national park near my house. As I thought it is Akagera’s pics.
It says
“Wanyamapori Katika mubuga ya Akagera”
Each word means the following.
“Wanyamapori” “wildlife”
“Katika” “in”
“Mubuga” “park”
“Ya” “of”
Then this sentence means
“Wildlife (animals) in Akagera park”
またまた、おもしろいページを発見してしまいました。通貨と紙幣です。
I found an interesting page again.
It was currency and bills.
タンザニア、ルワンダ、ケニア、アメリカ、ウガンダです。ルワンダの紙幣は左上です。マウンテンゴリラが印刷されています。
These bills are Tanzania, Rwanda, Kenya, America and Uganda. The Rwandan bill is on the top left one and Mountain gorilla is printed on it.
5000RWF（ルワンダフラン）紙幣です。だいたい600円くらいです。
This is a 5000 RWF bill. It is about 4 to 5 dollars.
教科書の図からスワヒリ語では「円」は”Yeni”、「日本」は”Japani”、「ドル、アメリカ」は“dola, Marekani”ということが分かりました。
おもしろいですね。
According to this fig, I could understand that “Yeni and Japani” in Swahili mean “Yen and Japan”, and ”Dola and Marekani” in Swahili mean “dollar and America”. It is interesting.
現在住んでいる町では、お店に入ると”Karibu”（ようこそ）と言われたり、普段の挨拶のなかでも”Sawa Sawa”（OK!OK!）というスワヒリ語が用いられます。このように、身近な場面でスワヒリ語が用いられています。
In my town, when I enter the shop, the shop staff says “Karibu” which means welcome. Also, we use “Sawa Sawa” which means “OK, OK” as a greeting. Like this way, Swahili is used in many everyday situations.
