先週と同様に、今日明日取り上げるのはPart 2です！

 

 

過去TOEICで出題されたリスニング問題などを基に作成し

 今週は、音声を知り合いのアメリカ人女性にお願いしました。

（注）Part 2は会話応答問題なので、本来は二人の異なる話者による音声です。

昨年11月にリリースされたOpen AIのChatGPT。

たった4ヶ月で、次世代モデル「GPT-4」が登場しましたね！

 

 

 

 

 

私自身は、まだ「GPT-4」に課金していませんが

無料版のChatGPTをもう少し使いこなせるようになったら使いたい！

 

 

やはり、TOEICや語学学習に応用したいので

音声認識機能が使えるようにになったら絶対サブスクします。

 

 

 

 

  上級者向けのTOEIC単語リスト

 

 

今日のテーマは（無料版）ChatGPTと上級者向け単語リスト。

 

 

YouTubeなどでChatGPTと英語学習について紹介されていますが

単語についてはあまりないような・・・

 

 

そこで、ChatGPTに「上級者向け単語リスト」について聞いてみました！

 

 

最初にお願いしたのは

 

"英語上級者（advanced English learners）向けのTOEIC単語リストを作って"

 

 

待つこと十秒位で回答があり、アルファベット順に次々と単語が。

気になったのは、ChatGPTが"advanced English learner"をどう定義しているか。

聞いてみました。

仕事や実生活で求められるコミュニケーション能力をTOEICは保証しているか？

と言われれば、そうでないケースもありますよね。

 

 

TOEIC900点以上なのに話せない。

 

 

過去に担当した生徒さんも、それが悩みで発音コーチングを受けてくださいました。

 

 

その意味で、ChatGPTは古いデータも出てきますが

正しく使えば英語のアウトプット練習ができる強力なツール。

 

 

 

気兼ねせずにチャットができるので、慣れると楽しいですよ！

 

 

 

 

  ②ChatGPTは、単語リストをどのように選んだのか？

 

 

上級者向けの単語リストを出してもらった後で、もう一つ気になったのが

実はビジネスシーンだけではなく、日常生活の話題も出てきます。

今回出てきた単語には、実は、西洋の歴史的・文化的な基盤である

キリスト教に関する表現が幾つか入っています。

 

 

例えば、1.advent  5. canon  6. confession　7.disciple

 

 

大文字でAdventと書く場合は、降誕節（クリスマスの準備期間）に。

そういえば以前、Advent calendarについて記事を書いたことがありました。

次に、canon。

日本でcanonと言えば、世界的なメーカーCanonを思い浮かびますよね。

（昔、新卒採用試験を受けたCanon。社名が観音様に由来すると知り、驚きました）

 

 

この単語はキリスト教と深いかかわりがあり、教会法や聖書の正典、

ミサの「カノン」のことをcanonと言います。

 

 

文学においては、"canon of Western literature"という表現もあるように

canonは特定の時代を代表する作品群を指します。

 

 

例えば、ホメロス、ダンテ、シェークスピア、

オースティン、フィッツジェラルドなどの文学作品。

 

 

 

6. confessionは「信仰告白」や「告解」という意味で

ドストエフスキーの『罪と罰』

 シェンキェヴィチの『クオバディス』

遠藤周作の『沈黙』

 

 

これらの文学作品でもテーマになっていますね。

 

 

 

弟子という意味の7.discipleは

the twelve apostles of Jesus（イエスの12使徒）＝ 12 disciples of Jesus

という言い換え表現でよく出てきます。

 
 

TOEIC対策として覚えておきたいのは、4. bookと14. subtitle

 

 

bookは動詞だと「～を予約する」。TOEICの超頻出単語です！

 

 

I'd like to book a round trip flight to New York.（NY行きの往復便を予約したいのですが）

 

 

 

 

14. subtitleは「（作品の）副題」という意味ですが、

複数形のsubtitlesになると「字幕」という意味になります。

 

 

The movie "The Godfather" has the subtitle "Part II"

to indicate that it is a sequel. 

（映画『ゴットファザー』はシリーズであることを示すために

"Part II"という副題がついている）

 

 

The YouTube video included Japanese subtitles for the benefit of viewers who didn't speak the language.
